SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric shut off power to nearly 2,500 customers as of Wednesday evening due to strong winds and the increased risk of wildfires.The shutoffs are in the communities of:AlpineCampoDescansoEl CajonPotreroSycuan ReservationAccording to the company, more than 31,000 customers were notified of being at risk of the outages.The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning from 8 a.m. Wednesday through noon Thursday for San Diego County’s inland valleys and mountains.SDG&E issued the following statement:“Public Safety Power Shutoffs are a last resort to protect public safety and reduce wildfire risk, and our employees are dedicated to doing everything we can to minimize impacts should it come to that. We understand the last thing our customers want to hear is that they may lose power given the holiday and COVID pandemic. Our meteorology team is closely monitoring the weather circuit by circuit, and it’s our hope that Mother Nature will cooperate and conditions will change, eliminating or reducing the need for safety power shutoffs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating what led to the death of a man while in police custody last week in Paradise Hills.Police said 39-year-old Guillermo Corrales was arrested on April 16 in the 6300 block of Clyde Ave. after reports of a relative becoming violent. Corrales had possibly used narcotics, according to police.Corrales was placed in handcuffs and medically evaluated by first responders.During the evaluation, Corrales went into cardiac arrest, according to police, and he was taken to a nearby hospital and placed on life support.He died from his injuries on Thursday.San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a possible custody death. 724

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police Monday identified a shooting victim found in Sherman Heights following a crash.According to police, 25-year-old Jose Alberto Ortiz died after officers found him with gunshot wounds on October 22 near 27th Street and K Street.Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a crash. After responding, police say they found a dark sedan that collided with a parked vehicle.“Upon contacting the driver, they saw that he had sustained trauma that was not consistent with a traffic collision and suspected the male had been shot,” police said.The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. After investigating, police learned that the man was driving on the 300 block of 27t h Street when neighbors reported hearing gunshots.The man kept driving, whete he crashed onto a parked vehicle on the 200 block of 27th Street.Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 987

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric says more than 21,000 residents could lose power amid a coming Santa Ana wind event.The company said Saturday it notified thousands of residents about the possibility of power outages to reduce wildfire risk both Monday and Tuesday.The outages could take place in south Orange County and north San Diego County. Click here to see a map of areas that could be affected.“The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for inland Orange County for 2 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday, and it has indicated that ‘any rainfall that occurs this weekend will not delay the fire weather potential for very long on early Monday,’” the company said.SDG&E says most Santa Ana winds come from the east and sweep through San Diego County’s backcountry. This event, however, is forecast to come from the north, affecting urban and coastal areas that don’t normally see public safety power outages.“Within SDG&E’s service territory, the strongest winds are expected overnight Sunday through Monday in the San Clemente and east San Juan Capistrano areas in south Orange County and the Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Pala Reservation and Fallbrook areas in north San Diego County,” SDG&E said.Drive-thru community resource centers will be available starting at 8 a.m. Monday at the Fallbrook Branch Library, 124 S.
