Nashville will be home to Amazon’s new executive operations center -- bringing 5,000 jobs to the area and making it the largest jobs announcement in Tennessee's history.  Amazon made the announcement Tuesday morning, saying the location would be its new Operations Center of Excellence and be the company's headquarters for its logistics group. Amazon has chosen New York City and Northern Virginia to split duty as its second headquarters.  Nashville will serve as the company’s Retail Operations division, which will be located in downtown just north of The Gulch in the Nashville Yards development -- a billion dollar project between Church Street and West End. The one million square foot office space will house the tech and management functions of the Retail Operations division, including customer fulfillment, customer service, transportation, and supply chain, amongst others.“Amazon has spent the past year searching the nation for the best possible locations to expand and it chose Tennessee because of our business-friendly policies, low taxes and skilled workforce," Governor Bill Haslam said in a statement. The company is making an estimated 3 million capital investment over seven years and creating 5,000 net new full-time jobs with an average pay of .32 an hour, which is more than 0,000 a year.Currently, Amazon employs approximately 2,500 people in the Nashville region across five fulfillment and sortation centers. MULBERRY, Fla. — Polk County Fire Rescue responded to Mulberry Middle School in Mulberry, Fla. on Thursday after several students suddenly became sick after they reportedly consumed THC laced gummy bears. Five of the ill students were taken to the hospital and one was picked up by their parents. A spokesperson with Polk County Schools tells us the students consumed gummy bears that contained THC. The Sheriff's Office said one 12-year-old supplied the gummies. That child is being charged with seven felonies and a misdemeanor charge.The Polk County Sheriff says the students had a negative reaction to the THC laced gummy bears they ingested. The Sheriff's Office is investigating how the students got the candy in the first place.  764

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — Over the past year, there has been an increase in drivers illegally passing school buses in Kenosha County, Wisconsin.In 2017, the Kenosha County Sheriffs Office issues 57 "failure to stop for school bus" violations. This year, the number of citations is up 70.Steve Bennett has been a bus driver at First Student Inc. in Kenosha for 11 years. It's a school bus company that services 39 schools in that county. He said when he sees a car passing the stop arm, it’s upsetting. “It’s a mix between anger and I’m terrified. What’s going to happen with my kids?” Bennet said.According to a one-day study done by the Wisconsin School Bus Association, out of 1,538 participating drivers, 363 cars were observed passing the stop arms.In Waukesha County, 242 violations were reported in 2017. Michael Comstock, manager of First Student, said his drivers report violations daily. Once a violation is observed, license plate numbers and the description of the vehicle are then handed off to authorities. “It’s a life and death decision every time they decide to drive through the red lights on a school,” said Bennett.Elizabeth Ramirez is a mother of a 4-year-old and said it’s gut-wrenching to see drivers pass through school bus stop arms. “You have to pay attention because that’s why so many things are happening nowadays. People are in such a rush to get somewhere," said Ramirez. Failure to comply with school bus stop laws could result in a 2 fine.  1515

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The National Museum of African American Music is finally set to open next year.The grand opening was delayed this summer due to several pandemic setbacks, but a new date has been set for January 18, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Museum President and CEO Henry Hicks says it's going to be a very special day as NMAAM has been in the works for 22 years. Hicks says museum leaders were excited to open in the summer of this year, but the pandemic made it tough. Construction material was delayed, and they had to implement social distancing requirements for crews working.There are still some finishing touches being made on the museum but overall it’s ready for Nashvillians and tourists alike. Hicks says the museum will be a place that connects all generations and all walks of life through music.“Nashville is Music City and that really got its start with the Fisk Jubilee Singers. It evolved through an era of R&B and jazz being very prominent in the city and of course country music and I think the city has a job of embracing that country or Music City heritage," said Hicks. "This museum just really builds upon that.”NMAAM members will be the first ones to get access, but the following weekend, it will open to the general public.
