If you can't beat Amazon, partner with it.Kohl's is doing another deal with Jeff Bezos. The department store chain said Tuesday that 82 stores in the Chicago and Los Angeles areas will soon accept return items from Amazon. Kohl's will pack and ship the merchandise back to the online retailing giant for free.Earlier this month, Kohl's announced a plan to sell the Alexa-enabled Echo home speaker, Fire TV, tablets and other Amazon-branded devices in 10 of its stores. The latest partnership between Kohl's and Amazon comes as traditional retailers try (and often fail) to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape. Toys 'R' Us filed for bankruptcy protection late Monday.Toys 'R' Us has been hurt by Amazon, as well as Walmart and Target. But other retailers are following the lead of Kohl's and have decided to work more closely with Amazon to boost sales.Sears, which also owns Kmart, has been one of the worst-performing retailers of the past decade. But the company announced in July that it would sell Kenmore appliances, including some that are compatible with Alexa, on Amazon.Related: Wall Street bets Amazon will doom department storesCooper Smith, director of Amazon research at L2, a firm that tracks the digital performance of brands, says he expects more retailers to partner with Amazon -- but they will need to be wary at the same time."Doing deals with Amazon makes sense. They can help get consumers to come back, especially around Black Friday," he said. "But these retailers will have to tread a careful line when partnering with Amazon."That's because Amazon isn't just working with other retailers. The company has opened its own physical stores, Amazon Books, that sells best-selling books and Amazon devices. And in its biggest brick-and-mortar move of all, Amazon bought Whole Foods this year for nearly billion. The deal recently closed, and now you can buy Amazon gadgets at the grocery store along with kale and quinoa. It should come as no surprise, then, that investors in Barnes & Noble and Kroger aren't too pleased with Amazon's increased clout in the real world. The stocks of both companies have plunged nearly 40% this year, while Amazon is up 30%.L2's Smith notes that Amazon has its sights set on clothing, too. That could pose a problem for Kohl's and Sears."Amazon is launching private label apparel brands of its own," Smith said, adding that this could hurt sales of bargain-priced fashion at Kohl's, Sears and other department stores.Related: Nordstrom may reinvent itselfNot every big traditional retailer is throwing in the towel.Chuck Grom, an analyst with Gordon Haskett, notes that Macy's recently hired Hal Lawton, formerly a senior executive at eBay, to be its president. Nordstrom is launching a format called Nordstrom Local with no inventory. The Local stores will have stylists who help people pick out clothes that they can order online. The stores will serve wine and beer, too."We continue to observe more and more collaboration between digitally native companies and traditional retailers -- a theme that we think will continue to build momentum in the coming quarters," Grom wrote in a report Tuesday. And Walmart continues to boost its own digital operations under the leadership of Marc Lore, who joined the retailer after Walmart bought his company Jet.com last year."Walmart has done an extremely great job online under Lore," Smith said. "It's shaping up to be an all-out price war between Walmart and Amazon, and if anyone can beat Amazon at its own game, it's Walmart."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2017 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. If Halloween is your excuse for endlessly indulging in candy (and of course it is), go slow on the black licorice.Just as it does each Halloween, the Food and Drug Administration has posted a reminder on its website urging folks to keep their black licorice consumption to a minimum. The reasoning? Too much of the old-fashioned favorite can cause health problems such as irregular heart rhythm, especially in people over 40.Black licorice contains a sweetening compound called glycyrrhizin, which can cause a drop in potassium levels. With low levels, some people might experience high blood pressure, swelling and even congestive heart failure, the FDA says. The good news is that potassium levels return to normal after you stop eating copious amounts of black licorice. So, here are some tips from the FDA:-- Don't eat too much of the stuff at one go.-- If you have been eating a lot of it, especially if you have irregular heart rhythm or muscle weakness, stop (and call your doctor). 994

If you’re looking for the ultimate piece of sports memorabilia, you may be in luck. Additionally, we are pleased to be able to donate proceeds from one of the sale’s most exciting highlights to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund,” John McPheters, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Stadium Goods, said. Hours after two Atlanta Police officers were charged in connection with the death of Rayshard Brooks, the department confirmed that an unspecified number of officers are calling off tonight. The city’s Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that some officers are being asked to extend their shift on Wednesday. Bottoms added that other jurisdictions have been notified and were asked to be on standby to provide the city with assistance.Despite reports on social media, Atlanta Police denied that officers are walking off the job.“The department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call outs with the incoming shift,” the department confirmed on Twitter. “We have enough resources to maintain operations & remain able to respond to incidents.”Bottoms acknowledged to Cuomo that officer morale is an issue.Earlier on Wednesday, Garrett Rolfe, who was fired from the Atlanta Police Department following the shooting, was charged with felony murder and 10 other crimes, including four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and several violations of his oath of office.Officer Devin Brosnan has been charged with aggravated assault and several violations of his oath of office. Brosnan was placed on administrative leave late Saturday.Brooks died on Friday night after Rolfe shot him in the parking lot of a Wendy’s restaurant. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that officers responded to a call of a man who fell asleep behind the wheel in a drive thru. As Brooks took off withTaser in hand, Rolfe fatally shot Brooks.Brooks was transported to the hospital, and he died during surgery. 1836

If you're a pet owner, you know your furry friend can be expensive, especially when it comes to their medical bills. Last year, Americans spent billion at the vet. That's why more owners are now opting for pet insurance. But, is it worth it?"When you are presented with a ,000 bill for emergency surgery, you might only have to pay a couple hundred dollars," says Dr. Jessica Weeks, with BluePearl Veterinary Partner.   Routine care for a dog can be on average 7, and for cats, it’s around 2, according to the American Pet Product Association.  "Most people aren't prepared financially for those things that happen unexpectedly," says Dr. Weeks.Last year, there were 1.83 million pets insured, and experts say that number is climbing.   There are a few caveats with pet insurance, Dr. Weeks says. A majority of the plans do not cover shots and checkups. They only cover the big medical expenses, like treatments and surgery. Additionally, many plans will make you pay the bill in full and then they'll reimburse you after.   "There are similarities as far as pre-existing conditions,” says Dr. Weeks. “If your pet already has an illness and you try to get insurance, a lot of times insurance won't cover that."  That's why vets recommend you do your research. Dr. Weeks recommends owners with young pets get insurance.  As far as the best pet insurance goes, Consumer Watchdog’s top three picks include: Healthy Paws, Pet Plan and Embrace Pet Insurance.   "To be honest, when I have owners come in who have pet insurance, it's a huge relief on my part,” says Dr. Weeks. “So, I can offer standards of care of medicine and do the best that we can for those patients."  1756
