SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Thursday that the city is expected to see a major decline in tax revenue due to the coronavirus. Faulconer said the city usually takes in an estimated 0 million in sales tax throughout the fiscal year. This year, however, the city is expected to lose million in sales tax alone. Similarly, Faulconer added that the city could lose as much as million in tourism tax. The news comes the day after the famous Hotel del Coronado announced its closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "We have been saving for a rainy day. This is a hurricane," Faulconer said. The mayor said the federal stimulus package making its way through Washington should offer some help, but urged lawmakers to further help cities financially. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the waters off Fiesta Island Saturday.Police said they received a call just after 6:40 a.m. about a body floating in the water on the south side of the island. San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived and removed the body from the water and pronounced the victim dead.Police said while there are no obvious signs of trauma, because of the circumstances and condition of the body SDPD Homicide investigators were called to the scene.Little is still known about the victim and circumstances surrounding her death, police said. They described the woman as a possible Hispanic female, but she has yet to be identified.As of Saturday, police are calling the incident a "suspicious death."Anyone with information is asked to call the SDPD Homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 893

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating following a deadly hit-and-run in Clairemont Wednesday night. According to police, the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 5500 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. Police say a 44-year-old man was found dead on the eastbound lanes of traffic. They say he was struck by a car, which fled the scene. Then the man was hit by two other vehicles as he was lying on the road. Both also fled the scene.Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Dubois Street was closed for several hours during the investigation. 563

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are looking for a man described as mentally ill or under the influence of drugs.Sunday night at 8:58 p.m. someone called 9-1-1 describing a man acting irrationally. Police responded and found the Honda Accord matching the description of the call and tried to pull the car over.The driver flipped a u-turn and sped up to about 80 miles per hour, running three red lights down Governor Drive.Police slowed down to a safer speed and as they caught up to the driver they found the car crashed into the dead end fence.They say the man, described as Hispanic, in his late 20s, 5' 8" tall, wit ha shaved head, wearing a short sleeved shirt, a hoodie, and gray shorts took off. They believe he ran from the car.They searched the area, known as Rose Canyon Natural Park, and could not find the man.If you see him, police ask that you please not approach him and call 9-1-1. 918

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council leaders will consider several measures aimed at lessening the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic in San Diego.Among the legislation are measures that place a moratorium on evictions due to non-payment from loss of wages due to COVID-19, prevent immigration enforcement operations at hospitals and other healthcare facilities, and provide relief from utility shutoffs or late fees because of non-payment due to coronavirus.“The COVID-19 pandemic is already causing harm throughout our communities and across our regional economy, impacting vulnerable families, individuals, and businesses,” City Council President Georgette Gómez said. “We must act immediately to protect those who most are at risk of devastating financial hardship.”The council will also request Gov. Gavin Newsom implement a temporary moratorium on residential evictions due to loss of wages caused by the outbreak.Council leaders also plan to request Mayor Kevin Faulconer enforce earned sick leave and minimum wage ordinances, place a temporary ban on vehicle habitation fees and impounds, and work with hotels to offer rooms to unsheltered individuals and families. 1187
