HUDSON, Fla. — A Florida woman was arrested after she reportedly left two small children in a hot car with a bag of methamphetamine on the front seat while she was shopping in a Hudson, Fla. dollar store. Deputies responded to the dollar store to check the welfare of two young children in a hot car all alone. The children, a 1-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, were both seated in the back seat of the car. Deputies found a small clear bag containing a crystal-like substance sitting on the driver's seat. A field presumptive test showed the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies located Nicole Buffington, 24, inside the Dollar Tree store nearby and brought her outside. The investigation indicated the children were left alone from 12:06 p.m. to 12:29 p.m. while a bag of meth was easily accessible to the two small children, placing them in a state of neglect. Buffington was arrested and transported to the Land O Lakes Jail without incident. Buffington has been charged with child neglect and possession of methamphetamine. 1088

He and his soon to be ex-wife filed for divorce in October. McEachern said it should have been finalized in April. When he tried to find out why divorce documents were not mailed back to him yet, he learned it was going to take much longer. “I called the clerk’s office. That was the first time, I realized they were telling me we’re eight to ten months behind,” McEachern said.  It’s affecting him both personally and financially. “I can’t change health insurance until I have the signed divorce decree. She doesn’t want to use my health insurance because we’re separated, getting a divorce, so I’m paying for coverage no one’s using,” McEachern said. “We’re hearing a lot of complaints from people,” Roddy said. “They want to get divorced.” Roddy said this fiscal year, they’ve had to make million in budget cuts on top of a million deficit.  “That’s a million dollar hit to the court. We lost about 100 employees and we had a hiring freeze,” Roddy said.  In small claims court, Roddy said it takes about a year to set your case for trial.  When asked who is at fault for the backlog, Roddy said it started with the recession. “The recession hit California very hard, hit the courts very hard, and we have not bounced back to that level,” Roddy said. “It’s just very frustrating because every day, I’m still being tied to a marriage that we both have left from,” McEachern said. He added that it is “disheartening” that people pay for a process and the service isn’t being delivered. Roddy said they are hoping for more money in this next fiscal year, which they can use for personnel. He is expecting a flood of new orders in family court as the new tax law could affect divorce cases, with the changes in alimony payments. 2076

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Mar Vista High School operated under heightened security Tuesday due to a possible threat.Instruction continued in classrooms but Mar Vista's doors were kept locked as part of the security measures, according to Manuel Rubio, public information officer with Sweetwater Union High School District.The campus resumed normal operations just before 1 p.m.The school district was working with the San Diego Sheriff's Department to investigate a possible threat posted to social media, Rubio said.The threat was later determined to be unfounded, though the campus would have increased security through the day, according to Rubio. 679
