Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court Tuesday to eight criminal counts, admitting that "in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office" he acted to keep information that would have been harmful to the candidate and the campaign from becoming public during the 2016 election cycle. The charges against Cohen, an attorney for Trump until earlier this year and a member of his inner circle throughout his presidential campaign, bring an end to a months-long investigation by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. And they expose, through the criminal information filed against Cohen in court, that he acted with Trump and his allies, including David Pecker, the CEO of the National Enquirer's publisher, American Media Inc., to suppress potentially damaging claims against the now-President.Though Trump himself isn't named, the court filing refers to an Individual-1, who by January 2017 had become president of the United States. The counts against Cohen included tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations tied to his work for Trump, including payments Cohen made or helped orchestrate that were designed to silence women who claimed affairs with the then-candidate. 1319

Mail delivery is something just about everyone depends on, but for millions of Americans, mail services are a vital lifeline for health.“Levothyroxine which is a thyroid medication, I've taken this probably 40 years,” 87-year-old Barbara Raizen said. She takes multiple medications. “I right now live in a senior residence, I live in independent living.”She relies on the Postal Service for a lot of reasons, one being her medications.“It’s cheaper, it’s cheaper than the drug store, it’s cheaper than King Soopers,” she said. “And you know, every dollar counts.”That and it’s difficult for her to leave, due to COVID-19 restrictions. “If we go out we have to come back and be quarantined for two weeks,” Raizen said.Millions share similar concerns as the U.S. Postal Service deals with increased demand, lower processing capacity, and potential cost cutting.“It’s really a problem,” Raizen said. “If the prescription runs out, I have to call the doctor and he calls it back in but it comes by mail and it takes 7 to 10 days or more to get it.”“It’s both the increase in volume and the decrease in the processing capacity,” said Jeannette Song, an operations management expert and Duke University professor. “Many more people ordered online, so that increased the volume for the postal services.”The National Association of Letter Carriers said the Postal Service handles 1.2 billion prescription drug shipments a year, nearly 4 million every day. Data from the Kaiser Family Foundation estimates 14 million people relied on mail order pharmacies for at least one prescription in 2018.“At each step, the process has its capacity,” Song said. “It’s multistage processing, so this is a journey of that. Certainly each step takes some time.”While USPS is experiencing strains right now, she said this happens other times, too.“Holidays,” she said. “Usually get delays, it’s just the same thing”With all the debates going on over cost cutting and the current pressures on the Postal Service, millions are worried. Some taking to Twitter to share their story under the #USPSMeds hashtag.“The post office is important,” Sandy Reavey said. She also relies on the Postal Service for her medications. “It’s just easier. You don't have to go and stand in line at the pharmacy, and it can be cheaper because you can get a three month supply versus doing it every month and having to go back every month to the pharmacy.” She added that especially right now, not everyone necessarily wants to stand in a line with a bunch of people. She receives multiple medications through the mail. “If I don’t take the medication, it causes my heart to go out of whack and could cause me to have a heart attack or a stroke.”As debates continue over Postal Service overtime and other cost cutting measures, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has promised to suspend for now. Sandy and Barbara continue hoping their medications make it on time.“Growing up I’ve already trusted their mail service to deliver and not tamper with my mail,” Reavey said.“What are you supposed to do? Can’t do everything online,” Raizen said. 3096

Major 2020 election news will likely take place with Democratic nominee Joe Biden set to reveal his pick for vice president. THE PROCESSThe Biden team has been very secretive with the vetting process like previous presidential campaigns. According to sources, many top-level advisers are not even privileged to the selection process. Biden said months ago he would pick a woman to be his running mate but has not narrowed it down any further. THE POSSIBLE PICKSWhile it is possible Biden will pick someone not on this list, it is expected he will choose from these 11 women: Stacey Abrams: A former legislator in Georgia who came close to winning the Governor's Race in Georgia in 2018. Abrams is an African American leader and viewed as a rising star but some question whether she has enough national experience. Tammy Baldwin: A United States senator representing the swing state of Wisconsin, but some question whether she has had enough exposure on the national stage. Karen Bass: A member of the House of Representatives representing California, Bass is an experienced legislator and African-American leader. Being from California, however, doesn't help with swing states.Keisha Lance Bottoms: Mayor of Atlanta and an African-American leader, Bottoms, however, has limited national experience. Val Demings: A member of Congress from the crucial state of Florida, Demings is a prominent member of the Congressional Black Caucus who gained exposure during the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Some attack her time as a police chief, however. Tammy Duckworth: A United States senator representing Illinois, Duckworth is also a veteran. Some wonder if she is well-known enough. Michelle Lujan Grisham: As governor of New Mexico and a former Member of Congress, Grisham has the experience and is one of the nation's top Latinas. Critics point to the fact few know her outside of New Mexico. Kamala Harris: A United States senator and African-American leader, Harris is well-known as a former presidential candidate. Some Biden advisers don't like how she attacked Biden during the campaign, not to mention her time as a prosecutor could hurt her with some voters. Susan Rice: An African-American woman who served as former National Security Adviser under President Obama, Rice has qualifications but has never held elected office. Gretchen Whitmer: Whitmer leads the swing state of Michigan as governor but some question whether Biden should pick an African-American to serve as his number two. Elizabeth Warren: Warren is well-known on the national stage as a progressive, which could help turn out for Joe Biden. However, she is also a lightning rod for conservatives. 2686

MIAMI — All of South Florida is now in the cone of concern for Hurricane Eta, which hammered Nicaragua on Tuesday.According to the 4 a.m. ET update from the National Hurricane Center, Eta is packing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.The NHC said Eta will rapidly weaken as the storm moves farther inland over Nicaragua and Honduras. The forecasts project the storm will curve and emerge over the northwestern Caribbean Sea on Thursday night or Friday. Once it does, forecasters said it could re-strengthen into a tropical storm.By Sunday at 7 p.m., the center of Eta will be just south of Florida with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.According to meteorologists for Scripps station WPTV in Palm Beach, Florida project that there will be a higher confidence on Friday for the potential impacts in South Florida."Computer models are in fairly good agreement, but the timing is different," said WPTV chief meteorologist Steve Weagle said. "Some are much faster, bringing the rainfall in on Friday. Others a lot slower, bringing it in on Saturday."At that point, Weagle said the forecast is calling for tropical storm conditions over the weekend with heavy rain and gusty winds.Weagle said rain bands will likely arrive later on Friday, loosely tied to Eta and a weak front over Cuba. Heavy rain squalls and possible tropical storm conditions are in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday."It'll likely be a very sloppy, disorganized weather system as it moves through," Weagle said. "Soggy weekend on the way."This story was originally published by Steve Weagle and Kahtia Hall on WPTV in Palm Beach, Florida. 1613
