NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Sometimes police get really strange calls. Such was the case for officers in North Ridgeville, Ohio, who received a call from a man who said while walking home from a train station, a pig started following him, and he didn't know what to do.Thinking he had just left the bar in Elyria named the Train Station, police went out to pick up the caller, who they believed was drunk.When officers arrived, they found the man stone-cold sober, complete with his four-legged stalker in tow.According to authorities, the man told them he was walking home from an Amtrak station when the animal decided to go for a walk with him.In the end, the pig was very cooperative and was placed in the back of a police cruiser and taken to the station. Police made the animal feel at home for a bit inside the department's dog kennels until the owner was notified, and it was picked up.Authorities didn't say if the owner was cited for having a pig on the loose.  1021

NEWARK, N.J. - Before the holiday travel season picks up, United Airlines said they will be offering free coronavirus tests to passengers on select flights between New Jersey and the United Kingdom, beginning Nov. 16.According to a press release, the airline launched the 4-week pilot program that will run from Nov. 16 to Dec. 11.United is only rapidly testing passengers flying between Newark Liberty International Airport to London Heathrow, free of charge.United said appointments are required, and passengers will have to arrive three hours before their flight to get results back in time."We believe the ability to provide fast, same-day COVID-19 testing will play a vital role in safely reopening travel around the world and navigating quarantines and travel restrictions, particularly to key international destinations like London," said Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer for United in the news release. "Through this pilot program, we'll guarantee that everyone* onboard has tested negative for COVID-19, adding another element to our layered approach to safety. United will continue to lead on testing, while at the same time exploring new solutions that contribute to the safest travel experience possible."United said Premise Health is administering the rapid testing pilot program.Travelers flying into the UK still face a mandatory 14-day quarantine, according to the US Embassy in the United Kingdom. 1426

Nichole Jolly just confirmed what she feared: her childhood home, where three generations made memories, was now reduced to rubble.“This is where I came back when I was born,” she said through tears. “This is where my babies came back when they were born.”Jolly and her husband, Nick, had come to terms thinking the cat that lived with her mom probably didn’t make it. Jolly said her mom was given such little notice to evacuate, so she left with only the clothes on her back.But as if on cue, a head popped up from the rubble.“Oh my god, Nick!” Jolly cried out.  “That’s our cat! Oh my god.”After a few minutes, they coaxed her out of the rubble. Jolly whispered an apology to little Kit Kat, nestled in her arms. The cat was now much thinner than the last time they saw her and her paws were singed.“I can’t believe she made this! She is a strong kitty. We have a strong family,” Jolly said.“I had to walk through fire too,” she said in Kit Kat’s ear.Jolly did, in fact, walk through fire. In fact, she barely escaped.It was last Thursday when the rapidly-moving fire was spreading through the town of Paradise—now 90 percent destroyed--where Jolly works as a nurse. She helped evacuate the surgical unit patients, putting them in any cars they could find, as gently as possible.And for that, she’s been dubbed a hero. However, Jolly thinks that saving her own life soon after was the real miracle.Jolly was in her car trying to escape, when the inferno suddenly surrounded her and many others on the same road.“I don’t even know where I am, it’s on fire,” Jolly said in a video she took from her car. “And we’re stuck in the middle of it. These trees could come down at any moment.”Cars were lined up and going nowhere.“I thought I was gonna be able to get out this way, but I’m stuck here, too,” she can be heard saying through tears in that same video.“We were screaming and running into each other with our cars. They pushed me off the road.”On Tuesday evening, she returned to that very spot for the first time since she almost lost her life.“I was all by myself. I was totally alone, and I called Nick and I said, ‘Honey, there’s flames all around me, and I’m gonna die. There’s no way I can make it out of this.’”Her husband had even begun to think about how he would tell their children their mom wasn’t coming home.“She was hysterical,” her husband Nick said, recalling their phone call. “And I couldn’t do anything to help her.”He suggested she get out and run. So, she did. Her shoes began to melt, and her clothes caught fire.“And I just had my arms out and I’m running, and I touched a firetruck.”She got inside it, but traffic was still at a standstill. Even the firefighters thought their chances for survival were grim.“I was sitting in the fire truck right here and just thinking, ‘OK, this is going to be a really painful death.’”But a bulldozer suddenly appeared, pushing the melting vehicles off the road.They made it out. But she hasn’t stopped reliving it. “I’ll never forget my screaming in the car, when the fire was just coming up on the side of it, and I was yelling for my husband ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ I’ll never forget that. That’s what I wake up to every night.”But she takes comfort in knowing they, unlike some, still have each other.And they have Kit Kat. Tuesday evening, they brought her to her mom while she was at work to surprise her.“We found your freaking cat, mom,” Nichole shouted.Stunned, her mother could hardly find words.“Oh my god, you guys. NEW YORK, N.Y. – The results of a nationwide survey show a lack of basic Holocaust knowledge among Millennials and Generation Z.The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany released the results of its U.S. Millennial Holocaust Knowledge and Awareness Survey on Wednesday. The organization says it’s the first 50-state survey on Holocaust knowledge among Millennials and Gen Z, or people born between about 1981 and 2015.The national survey found that 63% of all respondents don’t know that around 6 million Jews were murdered and 36% thought that 2 million or fewer Jews were killed during the Holocaust.Additionally, the survey showed 48% of respondents can’t name one of the more than 40,000 concentration camps or ghettos in Europe during the Holocaust.One of the most surprising results showed that nearly 20% of Millennials and Gen Z in New York feel that Jews caused the Holocaust.The organization also says the survey showed 59% of respondents indicated they believe something like the Holocaust could happen again.“The results are both shocking and saddening and they underscore why we must act now while Holocaust survivors are still with us to voice their stories,” said Gideon Taylor, president of conference. “We need to understand why we aren’t doing better in educating a younger generation about the Holocaust and the lessons of the past. This needs to serve as a wake-up call to us all, and as a road map of where government officials need to act.”The survey revealed that Wisconsin scores highest in in Holocaust awareness among U.S. Millennials and Gen Z, followed by Minnesota, Massachusetts, Maine, Kansas, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Iowa, and Montana.Arkansas has the lowest Holocaust score, according to the survey, with less than 17% of Millennials and Gen Z meeting the Holocaust knowledge criteria. The other states with the lowest scores include Alaska, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Florida, and Mississippi. Surveyors calculated the scores by using the percentage of Millennials and Gen Z adults who met all three of the following criteria:1. Have “definitively heard about the Holocaust”2. Can name at least one concentration camp, death camp, or ghetto3. And know that 6 million Jews were killed in the HolocaustLastly, there was a consistent bright spot across the survey findings – a desire for Holocaust education. About 64% of respondents believe schools should be required to teach about the Holocaust and 80% believe it’s important to continue teaching it, so it doesn’t happen again.“We came to realize that, although a number of states already mandate Holocaust education which is an excellent first step,” said Claims Conference Holocaust task force leader Matthew Bronfman. “For the mandates to have a significant effect in classrooms there must be state funding to support the mandates. In a note to employees, CEO Ryan Roslansky said that the positions that will be eliminated are in its global sales and hiring offices. Roslansky said it's the only layoffs LinkedIn is planning. "To continue adapting and accelerating the company as we have been, we need to ensure we are focusing our efforts and resources against our most strategic priorities to set up the company for success today—and well into the future," Roslansky said in the letter. "When we took a hard look at the business, we decided we needed to make some hard calls."Roslansky said 960 roles across their Global Sales and Talent Acquisition organizations would be eliminated.Impacted U.S. employees will receive at least 10 weeks of severance pay and a year of continuing health coverage through COBRA.
