RAMONA, CA (KGTV) -- Thanks to the San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife, an orphaned mountain lion pup has a second chance at life. The Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on September 1st, and the very next day, the 12 week old mountain lion pup was their very first patient."We got a call from California Fish and Wildlife," says Project Wildlife Director Andy Blue. "That a firefighter had found a mountain lion cub in distress up near Idyllwild."The female cub was found semi-conscious, extremely emaciated, and dehydrated."When she first arrived here in Ramona, she appeared to be in pretty bad shape, and I wasn't sure she was going to survive."That's when the Project Wildlife team stepped in and provided the cub life saving treatment."We immediately gave her critical care supplies, got a diet syringe fed to her, and did everything we needed to do to turn it around."And a little over a month later, with the great care from Project Wildlife, Blue says the cub is expected to make a full recovery. "Now she is completely stable and will most likely be going to another facility in Arizona." You might think that once animals have rehabbed, they would be let back out into the wild.. Well that's not always the case.""Because she's had so much human contact, we really can't release her back into the wild. Our goal is to rehab animals and release them back into the wild, but in her case, it's not a good idea."The plan is to relocate the lion cub to a facility in Arizona by next week. 1548

Rachel Angel had to grow up fast.When she was just 16, Angel lived on her own in suburban Richmond Heights, about 20 minutes northeast of Cleveland. Her dad lived in Buffalo, New York. Her mom had just moved to North Carolina. Neither parent could provide a stable life, Angel said. As difficult as it was, she felt better off living on her own.“I was working full time, going to high school and falling asleep in calc class,” she said. “There’s this large group of individuals like myself that have to grow up much earlier. Working is essential to their survival. I have empathy for that.”Angel made it through high school, went on to college, and became a pharmacist.But in 2015 her empathy fueled the creation of Peerro, an app designed to help young people find jobs and become self-sufficient. She put her career as a pharmacist on hold to launch Peerro in Cleveland a couple of years ago. The platform is open to employers of all types that are looking for entry-level workers.“There’s nothing wrong with an entry-level employment opportunity, but it’s just that – an entry-level employment opportunity. And it’s sad when we feel like those are our only options,” said Angel, now 33. “A -an-hour job, -an-hour job is not our only option. It’s a starting point.”Here’s how Peerro works.Real-time opportunitiesYoung people looking for jobs download the app for free. It works on smartphones or computers. The platform asks a few questions about the job applicants and can require them to complete tutorials related to skills such as being on time for work.Then the young people can explore job postings that match the kind of work they’re seeking, filtering the options based on how far away they are, how much they pay, and whether they’re looking for part-time, full-time, temporary or seasonal work. They also can search for training programs.Employers that want to post a job on Peerro can get one free posting and access to the full Peerro system free for 90 days, Angel said. The system includes being able to post multiple jobs in addition to the use of training modules and interview scheduling tools. After 90 days, employers still get that one job posting free, but they must pay for the other services that Peerro offers.Peerro is always free for the young people who are looking for work, Angel said.“We have to communicate opportunity in real-time, because we’re changing so rapidly as far as the opportunities,” she said. “And Peerro’s kind of created that – a system that can communicate opportunity in real-time and actually allow someone to have value immediately.”Because Peerro encourages job applicants to include recommendations from people such as teachers and principals, it works kind of like LinkedIn but for younger people who aren’t necessarily interested in going to college, Browning said. Those applicants haven’t always had a way to show off their references and recommendations.“That just gives an employer more confidence,” she said. He posted a job on Peerro after hearing about it from a friend who also owns a business.“After going through my first initial process of trying to find an applicant, I would never use another service,” he said.Hailstock has hired three people through Peerro so far, he said, adding that he likes how he can customize his job listings and include prerequisites such as the completion of training videos.“It’s just a really easy way of hiring individuals, and you get higher-quality candidates,” he said. “It’s not like a one-click system where applicants are just clicking 100 jobs a day. You give them a call, and they don’t even know exactly that they applied for the job.”‘Let’s actually open the doors’Samir Gragston is 15 and will be a sophomore at Northwest High School. He’s using Peerro to try to get his first job.“It was a lot easier than signing up for a job online. So I thought that was pretty amazing,” he said. “Not hard at all. Just plug in your email and password, and there’ll be jobs for you and your age that you can do.”Samir plans to go to college after high school and would like to become a programmer, he said, but he wants to get that first job to gain some experience. Nobody’s just handing it to them.”Peerro aims to help teens and young adults get jobs where they will learn the skills they need to move forward and better understand where they want to go, Angel said.“Over 60% of the opportunities in America are not college-degree-required positions. Mitt Romney announced earlier on Tuesday he will not stand in the way of Trump’s nominee. Only two Republican senators - Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine - say they oppose holding a confirmation vote amid an election. With just Murkowski and Collins joining Democrats in opposing a confirmation close to the election, Republicans will likely have 51 votes to confirm Trump’s nominee.On Monday, Trump said he is choosing among five women to nominate to the Supreme Court by the end of the week, and is pushing for the nominee to be confirmed by Election Day.On Tuesday, Trump said he wants to see a full bench of nine justices in place by the election in order to oversee any potential election challenges.While the Supreme Court has given a 5-4 advantage to conservatives for many years, Chief Justice John Roberts has occasionally sided with the four liberal justices on key votes, including challenges on the Affordable Care Act. President Donald Trump's 2017 inaugural committee is currently being investigated by federal prosecutors in New York for possible financial abuses related to the more than 0 million in donations raised for his inauguration, according to a source familiar with the matter.The investigation was first reported by The Wall Street Journal Thursday afternoon.Citing conversations with people familiar with the investigation, which is being handled by the US Attorney's office in Manhattan, the Journal reported that prosecutors are also looking into whether the committee accepted donations from individuals looking to gain influence in or access to the new administration.The newspaper notes that "giving money in exchange for political favors" is illegal, as is misuse of any donated funds. The committee was registered as a nonprofit.In a statement, Trump's inaugural committee said the celebration was "in full compliance with all applicable laws.""The (committee) is not aware of any pending investigations and has not been contacted by any prosecutors. We simply have no evidence the investigation exists," the statement read."The (committee's) finances were fully audited internally and independently and are fully accounted. Moreover, the inauguration's accounting was provided both to the Federal Election Commission and the IRS in compliance with all laws and regulations. These were funds raised from private individuals and were then spent in accordance with the law and the expectations of the donors. The names of donors were provided to the FEC and have been public for nearly two years and those donors were vetted in accordance with the law and no improprieties have been found regardng the vetting of those donors."When asked by reporters about the story Thursday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, "That doesn't have anything to do with the President or the first lady. The biggest thing the President did, his engagement in the inauguration, was to come here and raise his hand and take the oath of office. The President was focused on the transition at that time and not on any of the planning for the inauguration."According to the Journal, sources told the paper that the investigation "partly arises out of materials seized in the federal probe of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's business dealings."During a raid of Cohen's properties last spring, a recorded conversation between him and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former adviser to first lady Melania Trump, was seized, according to the newspaper. Wolkoff expressed concern in the conversation about how the inaugural committee was spending money, a person familiar with the Cohen investigation told the Journal.Rick Gates, Trump's former campaign aide who has been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, was asked by prosecutors about the committee's spending and its donors, the Journal reported, citing conversations with people close to the matter.Tom Barrack, a real estate developer who ran the inaugural committee, has not yet spoken with investigators since an interview he had with the special counsel last year, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
