SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Symphony's new bayside concert venue is set to open just as San Diego's summer begins.Once completed in July 2020, Bayside Performance Park will be the first and only permanent waterfront venue on the west coast, according to the symphony's latest post online. "With state-of-the-art sound, lighting and staging, the Symphony will attract bigger names and brighter talent than ever before."The symphony made a minimum investment of million toward the venue.According to the Port of San Diego, the park will be open to the public 85 percent of the year, while the other 15 percent will be reserved for paid admission or rental events. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some Point Loma Nazarene University students have been told to shelter in place after a cluster of students tested positive for coronavirus.The university says it’s seen an increase of 12 cases. According to the school, 50 students were identified as close contacts.“A cluster of cases and potential exposures have been identified in the following dorm floors:Klassen Hall - 3rd North: three positive cases in isolation Hendricks Hall - 1st South: four positive cases in isolation Young Hall - 4th Floor: three positive cases in isolation Per university protocol, these positive cases are already in isolation in specific university housing outside of the potentially impacted floors,” the school said.The university says it is also monitoring two unrelated cases in Nease Hall.Read the full letter from the school below: 849

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starbucks customers are noticing a difference since employees were notified Friday of a revised customer policy, acknowledging "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."This comes a month after two men were arrested in a?Philadelphia store, sparking national outrage."They're trying to make sure they fix the problem and everything and keep everything straight because they're not trying to be racist, I think," Customer Maurice Howard said.Every customer who spoke with 10News Sunday said they were happy to hear about the revised policy, hoping what happened in Philadelphia will never recur.Customer Francisco Ruiz said the coffee shops provide a service for the community, a notion echoed by the company's vision to create a "third place between work and home."It's no secret students see Starbucks as a study sanctuary. Others, like Yvonne Pardo, conduct business at some of the chains out of convenience."I'm a hiring manager for a local business and I do my interviews at Starbucks," Pardo said.When she learned of the arrest in Philadelphia, she still came in to conduct interviews, but didn't buy anything to see what would happen."Obviously I was impressed at the fact that I wasn't asked to leave, and I was there for four hours one time... Knowing that they changed their policy, I'll probably be more likely to be a patron again," she said.The new policy, meant to be more inclusive, could be abused."I was at Starbucks yesterday and there was a loiterer and I thought about that and I was like, now they probably can't ask this person to leave, and he was sleeping," Pardo said the person was homeless."You got a lot of people who want to kick it and chill and stuff like that so it'll probably be overcrowded, a little bit bad for business," Howard said.The new policy does address disruptive behavior instructing employees to call 9-1-1 and follow procedures to bar a customer from the chain if necessary.The complete revised Starbucks policy is online. 2168

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a photo Friday of a suspect wanted in the death of a woman in Point Loma.Joe Bennette Conway, 41, shot the unidentified woman in the parking lot of 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. late on the night of October 9, police said.911 dispatchers received a call about the shooting. Police units found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she died.Police identified Conway as the murder suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Conway is 5’7” tall and 150 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen visited San Diego Monday, making her first local stop since joining President Trump's cabinet in December.Nielsen arrived in San Diego after a long flight from South Korea, where she helped represent the United States at the Paralympics. The trip also coincides with President Trump's arrival in San Diego Tuesday.Nielsen spent most of her day with the Coast Guard. She took a helicopter ride for an aerial tour of the border wall prototype site, then gave a speech to the Coast Guardsman."True border security involves a wall system, which, of course, include the physical infrastructure, but also mission-ready agents," Nielsen said in her speech as she touched on the controversial issue of immigration.Nielsen then boarded a Coast Guard response ship to watch a tactical demonstration put on by the Coast Guard's elite Maritime Security Response Team.She will remain in San Diego to join President Trump for his ground tour of the border wall prototypes Tuesday. 1046
