SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Harbor Police Tuesday arrested a man accused of attacking a teen Syrian refugee on board an MTS trolley, sparking a hate crime investigation. According to police, 26-year-old Adrian Vergara was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor narcotic charge. During his arrest, Vergara was recognized as being wanted in connection to an ongoing hate crime investigation, police said. The arrest stems from the beating of a 17-year-old Syrian refugee on a San Diego Trolley car Oct. 15. Representatives for the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans (PANA), who spoke on the teen's behalf, told 10News the teen was speaking Arabic while on FaceTime with a friend when a man on the trolley asked him, "Where are you from? The victim reportedly exited the trolley at the 62nd Street station in Encanto. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents of several inland North County communities tell 10News they are fed up with the numerous delays which have led to a series of road improvement projects to take more than two years to complete.The most impactful is the widening of Rancho Bernardo Road between I-15 and Bernardo Center Drive.Work on that stretch began in February of 2017 and was projected to take six to seven months. It's almost a year past that point. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating after a woman who was shot in Barrio Logan Friday night died.Police were called to the 2400 block of Harbor Drive around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Stephanie Kinman, who was shot in the area.When they arrived, officers found Kinman on the sidewalk near a vehicle.The Kinman was taken to the hospital where she later died.Throughout their investigation, detectives learned that the woman was shot near a pizza restaurant on the 1000 block of Dewey Street before being driven to Harbor drive by a “male companion.”The man told investigators that the victim got into a fight with a man and a woman. After the fight ended, Kinman was shot while getting into her car, police say.The shooter hasn’t yet been captured. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials have warned at least three local churches about having services indoors. The county sent out three letters to Skyline Church in La Mesa; Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lemon Grove; and Awaken Church's campus on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.The letters to Skyline and Lighthouse were very similar, saying indoor services create "significant risk of spreading COVID-19," encouraging the churches to move their in-person services outside. The third document is a cease-and-desist letter sent to Awaken Church ordering the church to stop indoor operations. All three letters are dated July 17 and are signed by County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. The letters state that failure to comply with these orders can mean criminal misdemeanor citations with a fine of ,000 for each violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Fire crews responded to a first-alarm brush fire in an east San Diego neighborhood Saturday.The fire ignited near the 5700 block of Bates Street around 1 p.m. in the Redwood Village neighborhood of east San Diego. Within 15 minutes, crews had stamped out the half-acre fire.No evacuations were ordered, according to SDFD.The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. 405
