SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As the temperature rises and more businesses, like movie theaters, are reopening San Diegans and people from neighboring counties are flocking to get a dose of normalcy."We sold out today which is great news for everyone, we sold out today very quickly." General Manager of Theater Box Donnie Eversole said.He said it was wonderful 'being home' back in the theater, "we haven't been in the theater for 90 to 120 days so it's like a new adventure."He said it helps that the week they opened, two blockbusters, Christopher Nolan's Tenet and Bill and Ted Face the Music, are screening. While they're capped at 25% Eversole said you can make sure you claim your seat by reserving online. They are working to add more showtimes while abiding by the new guidelines.Last time San Diego had sweeping reopenings, there was a huge spike in coronavirus cases. Eversole said they are doing everything they cna to prevent another spike, "every cdc guideline is followed to the letter, we do not bend, we do not break. We follow the rules because not only is our business affected, everyone else is and we want to make sure everyone is getting a fair shake and able to recoup some of the summer that's been lost."San Diego is the only lower tier county in Southern California with the ability to have so many re-openings, drawing attention from our neighbors.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher spoke at Wednesday's press conference, urging everyone to do their part to prevent another spike, "One of the most dangerous settings is indoor gatherings, it is house parties, it is people gathering together in an indoor setting and there really is no way for us to enforce that or prevent that other than the public's help and cooperation."He said if there are gatherings and another spike in cases, businesses, like Theater Box, could shut down once again. 1857

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As the U.S. prepares for the possibility of a coronavirus vaccine, San Diego County public health officials detailed what groups will see the vaccine first.San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said the state anticipates receiving 327,000 doses in mid-December, with about 28,000 doses heading to San Diego County.According to the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the phases for vaccine distribution will follow:Phase 1A: Healthcare personnel, nursing home residents, nursing home employeesPhase 1B: People with underlying medical conditionsPhase 2: Teachers, school staff, child care workers, food supply chain workers; Critical workers in industries essential to the function of society; People in and staff working at correctional facilities; All older adults not in Phase 1Phase 3: Children and young adults 30 and younger, critical workers not in Phase 1 or 2Phase 4: Everyone else living in the U.S.Wooten added that the county's first round of vaccines will have to go toward Phase 1A, and that there are well over 28,000 people in the first phase alone."It's not just doctors and nurses, it's other healthcare personnel that might take food to individuals in their room that would have COVID-19 or maintenance or janitors," Wooten said of the Phase 1A group on Wednesday. "So those are at the top of the list, acute healthcare facilities. Again, it is going to be very challenging. We are working out the numbers and working out the process now. But the good news is that the first shipment isn't going to be our last shipment."Wooten said that the second round of vaccine distribution will likely be within three weeks after the first round. She added that Phase 4 of distribution will likely occur in March and April. The FDA is scheduled to meet on Dec. 10 to discuss issuing an Emergency Use Authorization for Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine. If the EUA is approved, shipments could begin within 24 hours. 1983

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Cleanup is underway after a driver went on a rampage, hitting three cars before crashing into an apartment building in North Park.  "I heard just a really loud bang noise and I felt the apartment shutter," said Laura C, a resident in that building. It started when police say the 60-year-old driver hit an electrical box while getting on the 805 southbound from El Cajon Boulevard. He went down an embankment and continued south before crashing into a car on the highway. The driver kept going and got off on University Avenue. That's when he crashed into two more cars and a pole near Boundary Street. He then put the car into reverse and plowed through a gas station and into the apartment building wall. "Out of nowhere he just went full blast in reverse until that building stopped him," said witness, Vicki Nikbakht. Police believe the driver may have been under the influence of drugs. Residents were evacuated in fear that the building would collapse. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt.  1110

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council members will consider two proposals to develop vacant city-owned properties into permanent housing for homeless veterans, seniors, and youth and young adults. The two proposals, conditionally awarded development bids by the city, will also provide on-site supportive services. One proposal by Community Housing Works’ includes building 26 units for chronically homeless youth and young adults on a .336-acre site at the former Serra Mesa Library. That proposal includes on-site case management by YMCA Youth and Family Services. Ideally, the development would open in August 2023.The second proposal by San Diego Community Housing Corporation would turn the 1.42-acre Scripps Ranch Park and Ride site into 60 units for veterans and seniors. San Diego Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly would provide on-site services. That proposal aims to open in January 2024."After a comprehensive review, we determined that both organizations submitted well-qualified and responsive proposals," said Deputy Chief Operating Officer Erik Caldwell. "Now, we will work on presenting both proposals to the City Council, so construction on these vital permanent housing projects can commence as soon as possible."The two proposals are in addition to two recent hotel purchases by the city to help homeless individuals transition into permanent housing. Last year, Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced that eight city properties would be offered up to develop into permanent supportive housing as well.In 2019, San Diego's Community Action Plan on Homelessness identified the need to increase permanent supportive housing by 2,659 units within the next 10 years, with 60% of those units developed within the first four years.A date hasn't been announced as to when the council will consider the two latest proposals. 1841
