SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan to essentially force 16 Lemon Grove teachers to resign was approved Tuesday night in a 3-2 vote. The Lemon Grove School District informed the teachers that it would move in a different direction at the end of this school year. The teachers were at the district for two years, the end of their probationary period. Any more time and they would become permanent. The district says it will replace those positions with new teachers for next year. "Our governing board believes that each child deserves the very best," the district said in a statement. "We will continue to provide that to you in Lemon Grove School District.""Why aren't we maintaining the teachers that have been here and have built relationships with our children? Built relationships with our parents? With our community," parent Rosa Carney said. Angela Vento, who has four children in the district, said her 9-year-old son Joshua was upset when he found out his teacher would be let go."She's always there for him," Vento said. "He has epilepsy and she helps him through that."Two teachers who asked to remain anonymous said the district gave them a choice of resigning, or being terminated with a non-renewal status. That status, the teachers said, is essentially a career killer. One teacher said all but one chose to resign. 1330

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man says his car was stolen while he was picking up a delivery order from a Subway in Clairemont. Luis Riveramerced said he was working for Postmates, a food delivery app, on Tuesday when he stopped at the Subway in Clairemont Town Square.“All I had to do is grab the bag and take off,” he said.So he felt comfortable leaving his car running, expecting to be in and out in a few seconds.“If I know it’s pick-up only, then I'll let my car run. I’ll just grab it,” he said.But while he was inside, he noticed part of the order was missing. As he was waiting for the order to be fixed, surveillance video captured a man peeking into the store, getting in his car and driving away.“I was like wow,” he remembered thinking when he went back outside. “I wasn’t expecting somebody to jump in my car right in front of me and take off like that.”He called the police but by the time they got there, the driver was long gone.“You put a little bit of trust and now I will never do that again,” said Riveramerced.A Navy veteran, he said he’d been working for Postmates for a few weeks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local group is teaming up with a non-profit organization to help fight the unemployment rates among young adults in San Diego. Casa Familia came up with the idea to start a coffee cart, training teenagers and 20-year-olds in different skills to run the coffee business. San Ysidro Health Center jumped on board to help with the funding of the project. Ana Melgoza is the Vice President of General Affairs for San Ysidro Health Center. She tells 10News it was an obvious decision."We said 'yes, of course' as soon as Casa Familia approached us with this wonderful and innovative endeavor," Melgoza said.El K-Fe hired six baristas, graduates of Casa Familiar's youth barista training program. The ,000 coffee cart now sits in the central hub of the health center. The baristas and managers are all young adults who have gone through many months of training. Francisco Dominguez is a student at Southwestern College and among the first to join the project."It’s kind of giving hope to the youth that think that they don't have a chance. They have a chance; we all have a chance. I started out like them now I'm looking forward to what the future has and what I can do with this and what we can do as a team," said Dominguez.Dominguez said the project is beneficial for many reasons but mostly for the skills learned at such a young age."Most jobs are 18 and older, so with this internship, it's 14 and older; so high school students: sophomores, freshmen, juniors, seniors in high school, can join the program, can get that job experience they need so once they graduate, they can get that job."The plan is to reinvest proceeds from the first El K-Fe coffee cart to establish more carts and create more youth job and training opportunities.  1820

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego financial expert in San Diego has a message for women looking for success: a man is not a financial plan.Most women would rather talk with the grandmothers about their love lives than talk about financial planning, according to an investment survey done by Oppenheimer Funds.CPA Ginita Wall has a clear message.“Every marriage ends in either divorce or widowhood and 70 percent of the time it’s the woman who’s left alone,” said Wall. “Then thinking that magically, someday, I’ll start saving for retirement, someday I’ll be able to buy a house; living in the someday and not really planning for it today.”Wall moved her CPA practice to San Diego 31 years ago. She realized there was a need.“Women were out in the marketplace, but they weren't managing the money, and sadly, often nobody was.”Wall and financial planner Candace Bahr launched the Women’s Institute for Financial Education (WIFE), a nonprofit to give women the tools to start making a difference.“We didn't have anything to sell anybody. Our whole goal was and continues to be ‘our goal is education,’” said Bahr.Wall and Bahr established Second Saturday, a monthly workshop to teach women what they need to know during divorce. Each session brings in an attorney for matters of the court. Wall gives financial advice, a counselor helps with family issues, and a mediator can settle the differences. The experts volunteer their time.“It’s a decision for many people that may be the largest financial decision of their life, and if you're going through it uninformed or too emotional, it's going to be difficult to make the right choices.”Wall says love and money go together, but so do arguments.“if you loved me more, you wouldn't be spending this money, spending more on me, or you would understand how I feel.” Wall advises couples to talk about what’s important to them, make goals, create a concrete plan and monitor it.“So we want women to be partners in a relationship, not dependents,” said Bahr.Wall and Bahr’s money message has gone national. Second Saturday is now in 115 other locations around the country, and there are plans to be in 500 cities soon.“It's amazing because we didn't set out to do this for 31 years.
