Metrics are weighted based on what more than 30,000 participants indicated as the most important aspects of livelihood. Healthcare and education were the heaviest scores, followed by economy, opportunity, and infrastructure.Overall, the Golden State came in at 32, though scored last in quality of life and near last in opportunity and fiscal stability."In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," U.S. News wrote. The state ranked 44 for natural environment and 47 for social environment.Natural environment measured drinking water quality, pollution and industrial toxins, and air quality. While drinking water quality was ranked 13, pollution health risks and urban air quality were among the worst states.Social environment looked at community engagement, social support, and voter participation. The personal-finance website compared the attractiveness of each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia for a working mother based on 15 key metrics, such as median women’s salary, female unemployment rate and day-care quality.California ranked 13 out of 51 in the overall tally. (KGTV) -- The family of Trevor Heitmann, the popular internet personality who drove a sports car into another vehicle killing a mother and her young daughter, say they are devastated and are working to understand what led to Thursday’s tragedy. “Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of our beloved Trevor Heitmann,” the family said in a statement sent to this station via email Saturday by their attorney. “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.” “We are piecing together the facts and circumstances that lead to this incomprehensible tragedy.”The family also thanked first responders for their “valiant efforts and dedication.”Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Drive before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Road. The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses told 10News, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.  1315
