(KGTV) ¡ª Disney is delaying plans to reopen Disneyland and California Adventure in July, saying state guidelines will not be issued soon enough to prepare its parks to welcome back guests.Earlier this month, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure Park were slated to reopen on July 17 after being shuttered since March. Disney¡¯s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney¡¯s Paradise Pier Hotel plan were to reopen on July 23. The company now says guidelines from the state are not expected "until sometime after July 4.""Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials," a company statement read.Downtown Disney is still scheduled to reopen in Anaheim on July 9 with health and safety precautions in place, according to the company. Disney said Downtown Disney's reopening had been previously approved under California's restaurant and retail guidelines for reopening."Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date," the statement said in regards to the parks.Disney added that is has signed agreements from 20 union affiliates representing cast members to return employees to work at the theme parks. The company's plans to reopen California parks mirror that of its parks that have reopened in Florida and China. Disney said the parks will plan to limit attendance using a reservation system in order to prevent overcrowd and encourage distancing between guests. Park experiences like parades, nighttime shows, and character meet-and-greets would also be temporarily suspended. Characters will still roam around the park, Disney said."Because theme park capacity will be significantly limited to comply with governmental requirements and promote physical distancing, the Disneyland Resort will manage attendance through a new theme park reservation system that will require all guests, including Annual Passholders, to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance," the park said on its official blog. "Once approved, the Disneyland Resort will reopen with enhanced health and safety measures. In addition, a Guest Experience Team will be available throughout the parks and Downtown Disney District to assist guests with questions regarding these new policies."Disney's health and safety measures are detailed here and include increased sanitation measures, screening and prevention, and cast member training. 2600

(KGTV) - Artificial intelligence may be able to perceive sexual orientation in faces better than the human brain, according to a Stanford University study.Dr. Michal Kosinski and Yilun Wang used deep neural networks to analyze more than 35,000 facial images. The programs correctly distinguished between homosexual and heterosexual men in 81% of cases, and in 74% of cases for women, researchers said.Accuracy improved when artificial intelligence analyzed five images, including grooming styles, according to the study.Researchers found lower accuracy rates for human judges asked to interpret sexuality through facial images: 51% for men and 54% for women. The researchers suggested the findings of the study posed a threat to the privacy and safety of gay men and women.GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign denounced the study, saying it made inaccurate assumptions.¡°Technology cannot identify someone¡¯s sexual orientation. What their technology can recognize is a pattern that found a small subset of out white gay and lesbian people on dating sites who look similar. Those two findings should not be conflated,¡± said Jim Halloran, GLAAD¡¯s Chief Digital Officer.¡°At a time where minority groups are being targeted, these reckless findings could serve as weapon to harm both heterosexuals who are inaccurately outed, as well as gay and lesbian people who are in situations where coming out is dangerous," Halloran said. 1437

(CNN) -- We've all been tempted to bring a little bit of paradise home from our holidays. But the urge has backfired on a French couple, who are facing up to six years in prison for removing sand from a beach in Sardinia, where they had been on vacation. The Italian island's white sand is protected, and tourists face fines and even jail time for removing it from local beaches -- but the couple say they did not realize they were committing a crime.Police in the northern city of Porto Torres found the sand while making routine checks on cars waiting to board a ferry to Toulon in southern France. They spotted some bottles filled with sand through the window of the car, and arrested the couple, a man and woman in their 40s, police told CNN.Overall, 14 plastic bottles containing around 40 kilograms (88 pounds) of white sand were seized, police said. The couple were reported to a court in the city of Sassari for aggravated theft and they risk a fine of up to €3,000 (,300) and between one and six years' imprisonment.Police told CNN that the tourists said they were unaware of the laws about removing sand, but noted that the island's beaches have signs in several languages informing visitors.Theft of white sand and rocks from Sardinia's beaches is very common, a police officer said, and there is an illegal market for them on the internet."The people of Sardinia are very angry with tourists that steal shells and sand, because it's a theft (from) future generations that also puts at risk a delicate environment," the officer told CNN.Sand thieves are usually picked up at airports, in bag searches and by scanners.A Facebook page, "Sardegna Rubata e Depredata" -- "Sardinia, robbed and plundered" -- which was set up by a group of security officials from the island's airports, campaigns against the depletion of Sardinia's beaches."The purpose of the page is to raise public awareness about this problem," one of the page administrators previously told CNN Travel."During the last 20 years of activity we have seized tens and tens of tons of material ... Every year we take care to bring everything back to the places of origin at the end of the summer season." 2183
