CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A gunman wearing a clown mask robbed a mini-market Saturday, police said.The robbery happened at 1:05 a.m. at an AM/PM convenience store in the 3100 block of Main Street. The suspect entered the store wearing a clown mask, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, beer and cigarettes.The gunman fled the store in an unknown direction.Medics were called to the scene after the clerk complained he was suffering from anxiety because of the robbery, police said. 482

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV)— The Chula Vista Police department is investigating a home invasion robbery that happened Saturday night on the 1600 block of Claret Cup Drive.80-year-old Don Oder believes he may have had an encounter with one of the suspects.He told 10News he was unloading the bags from his late night shopping trip Saturday and saw a man walk into his garage.“He says 'I’m thirsty. Can I have some water?' So I got him a glass of water,” Oder said. That was around 10:30 p.m. at Oder's home near Camarena Elementary School.At the time, Oder did not know that the person who asked for water could have been a suspect in a home invasion robbery that happened moments prior. “I didn’t put two and two together right away,” Oder said. Chula Vista Police said someone fired a gun at a nearby condo on Claret Cup Drive around the same time.Two people entered and robbed the residents, then ran east. No one was hurt.Looking back now, Oder believes one of suspects may have been the man hiding in his garage.“Pretty obvious that he didn’t want to be seen,” Oder said. Oder describes him as a young, built, clean-cut man.He was surprised at the man’s get-away car.“He said, I’ve called an Uber and it’s going to be here in a few minutes.”Oder stayed with him for a few minutes until the man suddenly ran.Moments later, he and his grandson called police. The next morning, Oder’s son Tim was walking toward the crime scene.Tim Oder said he found a bundle of stuff next to a car along Exploration Falls Drive.“I pulled a hat out, walked a little further, and then I started pulling some gloves, and I thought, oh my God, these are white latex gloves!” Tim Oder said. The water cup and the bundle of items are now with Chula Vista Police, being processed for evidence. The Oders said the fact that one family had two run-ins with an unusual crime in a safe neighborhood is a crazy coincidence.“It seemed so strange, you know?” Oder said. Chula Vista Police said the suspects are still at large and asked the community to be vigilant. 2154

The DEA says they served a search warrant at the home as part of an ongoing investigation. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista parents who once felt hopeless now feel empowered to care for their children with behavioral challenges. Through the Parent Intervention Program (PIP), parents learn new strategies while their children develop their social-emotional skills and new ways of expressing themselves. PIP is offered free to Chula Vista families through the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD)."We want to do what we can for our families and children when it comes to the whole child, not only cognitively but socially and emotionally," said Rita Palet, the Director of Early Childhood Education Programs for CVESD.Palet says this is now a priority for the district, which is why they're offering the PIP program to families for free."Behaviors take a while to develop, so they do take a while to diminish," said Palet.Through the program, parents meet others dealing with similar struggles. "When you come here it makes you feel safe, I feel safe coming here, even when we had a rough morning getting here, they're so welcoming," said Mina Fagen, who brings her son to the program.Fagen says her son started acting out after changes happened in the family; his sister went to kindergarten and they also had a new baby in the family."I felt overwhelmed, and still at times feel overwhelmed, but this program gives me a safe place to go to," said Fagen.Parents ultimately give back to the program by volunteering their time later as a "payback parent." This means staff members have completed the program with their own child and can support others going through the program. CINCINNATI – Charles Adams went on a rampage before he died in police custody Wednesday, acting wildly and damaging residents’ property at a Westwood apartment complex, according to a resident and 911 callers."It was bizarre, so bizarre," India Lavender told Scripps station WCPO in Cincinnati.Lavender said the 36-year-old Adams jumped on her car and then jumped into her neighbor’s window."(Somebody) came and knocked on my door and told me there was a man standing on top of my car," Lavender said.  “I came out. He yelled at me and told me to call the police, somebody was chasing him,  and he literally jumped off my car into my neighbor's window."Adams damaged at least five others cars while calling out for help as he went along, residents said.“It definitely seemed as if he was hallucinating,” Lavender said. “In his mind, someone really was chasing him, 'cause he was trying to get everyone else in the building to see the other people that weren’t there."Body camera video of Adams' arrest shows him becoming increasingly lethargic and unresponsive after officers put him in handcuffs. At one point, while standing, he slumps forward until he is nearly bent double.When officers escort him outside and allow him to sit down against a railing, he begins to drool and twitch before losing consciousness. "Jeez," one officer says in the recording. "He's foaming at the mouth."His breathing stopped shortly after his eyes closed.The fire department gave Adams first aid, including CPR, but he died on the scene.It’s unclear what brought Adams to the apartment complex. Neighbors said they had never seen him."Officers did not use any type of force to subdue Mr. Adams during the arrest activity," Lt. Stephen Saunders, Cincinnati police public information officer, said in the statement. The body camera footage reflects this assertion.READ the police statement here or below.Police documents released Thursday said District 3 officers responded to 911 calls about a man “exhibiting bizarre behaviors.”Adams responded to officer's verbal commands and he was placed in custody after they encountered him outside the Western Glen Apartments at 2627 Montana Ave., about 7:36 p.m., according to the police statement.Officers observed a small amount of blood from lacerations on Adams’ hands that occurred prior to their contact and immediately requested assistance from the fire department for medical aid, Saunders said.This remains an active investigation and more details will be release when available, Saunders said.  2589
