SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There will not be a new pledge class this year for one fraternity at San Diego State University.Phi Kappa Theta had its charter revoked by its national organization on Nov. 6.According to Phi Kappa Theta National, recent actions by members of the CA Phi Iota Chapter caused the chapter to be placed on suspension by both SDSU and the fraternity earlier this fall."This unanimous decision was difficult yet necessary," Fraternity President Adrian Gonzalez said. "Our intention is to use this process as a means to continue our Board’s long-term vision of supporting chapters aligned with our mission, vision, and values.”The fraternity said the SDSU’s chapter’s culture no longer aligned with the fraternity. SDSU officials said Phi Kap was initially put on suspension in January of this year and advised the fraternity that any further incident would result in their removal.“Allegations of violation of the alcohol policy by the fraternity were reported in September, which necessitated the further action,” SDSU media relations officer Cory Marshall said.Phi Kappa Theta’s expulsion at SDSU is in effect for seven years. 1159

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the drop of a banner, the Rock Church replaced the old sign of the Body Shop Strip Club purchased by the church.The church says they’re unsure what they’ll do with the building, but Thursday, they made it clear it’s no longer a strip club.It was quite the presentation, dozens of people, a stage and a sound system. The announcement the church made yesterday officially unveiled Thursday.RELATED: Rock Church buys former strip club in Midway DistrictWith Pastor Miles McPherson leading the charge, a Rock Church banner draped over the sign of the former strip club. “I’m very excited for what this won’t be, and how we can help the girls moving forward,” McPherson said. The church and several investors brought the club and its license for .2 million.Councilmember Lorie Zapf said the move is the beginning of a new future for the Midway with a vision of parks, families and a new welcoming look. “Midway is no longer going to be the red light district of yesteryear.”The problem with the plan, however, is the building sits just feet away from another strip club. “They started harassing me in April, I was called about 15 times by their broker,” said Kathleen Morgan, who owns Les Girls Theater.“It’s easy to stigmatize this type of business. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two children suffered injuries Monday when a pick-up truck driven by an elderly man hit tables and parked cars outside a University City Starbucks.The crash happened about 8 a.m. outside the coffee shop at 3202 Governor Drive at Regents Road, according to San Diego Police. The Starbucks is near the University City Post Office.The 85-year-old man driving the truck jumped the curb, crashing into customers.A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police did not release details about her condition. A 2-year-old girl had an injury to her lip but did not need further treatment.San Diego Police have not announced what caused the crash. 689
