Yosemite National Park is investigating about 170 reports of gastrointestinal illnesses and has confirmed two cases of norovirus, officials said Thursday.The National Park Service began investigating after visitors and employees started reporting illnesses this month. Most cases occurred in early January.“We’ve had very few the last week or so,” park spokesman Scott Gediman said. “We’re hoping that we’re over the hump.”Norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, touching a contaminated surface or eating or drinking contaminated food. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea and its symptoms are especially severe for elderly people, young children and people with health issues.Most of those who reported becoming sick in Yosemite had symptoms consistent with norovirus, although some might have had food poisoning or the flu, Gediman said.The origin of the outbreak was unclear. Park officials also haven’t determined whether people who became ill contracted something inside or outside of the park.Most of the people who got sick had spent time in Yosemite Valley, where park offices, visitor services, snack shops, hotels and restaurants are clustered.The park hasn’t tested food or facilities in the park for traces of norovirus, but Gediman said the park and its concession operators have been working to clean and disinfect public buildings, including the famous Ahwahnee Hotel.Aramark, which operates the hotel, received numerous complaints from visitors about poor food quality, shuttle and other services since it began managing Yosemite’s concessions four years ago.The company is working with the park to prevent future illnesses, Gediman said.“They’ve been a great partner,” he said. 1761

(CNN) -- A man who was mistakenly circumcised in a hospital mix-up has been awarded compensation, the hospital said.Terry Brazier, aged 70, went into Leicester Royal Infirmary for a bladder procedure known as a cystoscopy but was mistaken for another patient by hospital staff and circumcised.The hospital apologized and carried out an investigation, before confirming on Monday it had awarded Brazier a ￡20,000 (,300) payout.Brazier told the British newspaper the Daily Star that he was so distracted talking to hospital staff that he didn't notice he was getting the incorrect procedure until it was too late."They didn't know what to say when they found out they'd done it, they said they can't send me back to the ward and they needed to talk to me," he told the newspaper.Brazier added that finding out he had been circumcised was "a real surprise."Andrew Furlong, medical director at University Hospitals of Leicester, said in a statement: "We remain deeply and genuinely sorry that this mistake occurred, and I would like to take this opportunity to once again apologise to Mr Brazier.""We take events like this very seriously and carried out a thorough investigation at the time to ensure that we learnt from this incident and do all we can to avoid it happening again. YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office says a husband shot and killed his wife, a mother of two, after mistaking her for an intruder early Thursday morning.According to a spokesperson, deputies were called to the home around 2 a.m. Thursday after a report of a woman shot and not breathing.The sheriff's office said the family was sleeping and the 30-year-old husband woke up to what he thought was someone breaking into his home. He reports that he grabbed his gun, saw what he believed to be an intruder and pulled the trigger.The person he thought was the intruder was actually his 31-year-old wife.Two children, ages 2 and 4, were inside the home at the time and neither were injured.Deputies say the husband was taken into custody and is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail as the investigation continues.
