SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man is in jail after police say he bit an officer while resisting arrest. The incident happened in the East Village at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday morning near Market Street. Police say they received a report of a man behaving erratically and when they arrived the man was rolling around in the the middle of the street. Video shows officers approach the man attempting to resolve the situation peacefully when the man backs away and falls on the the 10News Breaking News Tracker vehicle. Police say the man bit an officer on the knuckle as they were detaining him. He was transported to a hospital where police say he vandalized hospital equipment. The unidentified man was then released by the hospital into police custody where he is facing vandalism and resisting arrest charges. 824

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Another migrant caravan has reportedly formed and is making its way through Mexico, according to Pedro Rios, the director of the American Friends Service Committee. Rios said the group has more than 2,600 people and is picking up more along the way. Like past caravans, it is fleeing violence from countries of violence, and Rios believes many will likely try to reach the U.S. border to make an asylum plea. “It includes not only Central Americans from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, but also Cubans and people from Venezuela and various African countries,” Rios said. “There is definitely a lot of families, in fact, they’re moving at the pace of families.” Rios said networks of humanitarian and human rights groups are watching the caravan. The group entered Southern Mexico and is headed towards Mexico City. From there, the caravan could decided to head up towards the Tijuana, San Diego portion of the border, or head towards Texas. 10News reached out Customs and Border Protection officials after hours Tuesday, asking if they are aware of the caravan and what preparations they are taking. (AP) -- Lowe's Cos. is laying off thousands of employees at its U.S. stores as it outsources some of their duties to outside companies.The home-improvement chain, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, declined to say exactly how many employees were affected. But The Wall Street Journal reported that thousands of employees were told this week that their jobs were eliminated, which the company confirmed.Lowe's spokeswoman Jackie Pardini Hartzell said Thursday that the cuts are coming as the company moves to third-party assemblers and facility services to allow store associates to spend more time on the sales floor serving customers. Previously some store workers did assembly work, such a constructing floor models, and janitorial work. Hartzell said that employees in these positions will have the opportunity to apply for other open roles at Lowe's.She said the company is not disclosing how many are affected as the number of employees impacted varies by store and the company has a strong track record of retaining associates in other roles within the company.Lowe's, under its relatively new CEO Marvin Ellison, is trying to return its focus to its home improvement chain and streamline its business.After Ellison took the reins last year, he thinned executive positions at the company and began paring away weaker selling items in its stores. Lowe's also sold announced last summer that it was closing the 99 Orchard Supply Hardware stores it owns in California, Florida and Oregon.
