(CNS) - Southwestern College holds a memorial event at its Higher Education Center in San Ysidro on Thursday to mark the 35th anniversary of the McDonald's shooting that left 21 dead and 19 others injured.The event featured a community resource fair, a memorial ceremony and a student artwork display at the college's Higher Education Center, which is located at the former site of the McDonald's restaurant. The center also has a memorial with 21 hexagonal pillars representing each of the shooting's victims."It opens up the wounds. You never learn to get over it," says Guillermo Flores, who lost his brother in the shooting. His younger brother David was 11 years old at the time. "You just learn how to live with that pain."The shooting is the seventh-deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history and was the deadliest mass shooting ever committed in the U.S. at the time. The gunman, who lived roughly 200 yards from the San Ysidro restaurant, was killed by a sniper with the San Diego Police Department. Sears has won some more time to save itself. But not a lot more time.At a bankruptcy court hearing Thursday, Judge Robert Drain approved Sears' plan to auction off about 500 stores. The auction is central to the company's mission to remain in business. Sears intends to use funds from the sale for its operations, and it will pay rent to the stores' buyers so they can stay open.A committee of Sears' creditors had objected to the plan and argued that the company should immediately start the process of going out of business to limit its ongoing losses.Judge Drain said he will hold another hearing a week before Christmas to consider whether to go ahead with Sears' effort to stay in business or start the process to close all its remaining stores. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A victim was rescued following a crash in Santee Wednesday afternoon. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened just after 4:30 at Mission Gorge Road and Cottonwood Avenue. Deputies responded to calls of a car hitting a motorcyclist. The victim was said to be conscious and breathing when they were taken to the hospital. Sayfullo Saipov has been charged with federal terrorism offenses in connection with Tuesday's attack in Manhattan in which eight people were killed, according to a charging document from the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbek national who was living in New Jersey, is being charged with providing material support to ISIS and violence and destruction of motor vehicles.[Previous story, published at 5:13 p.m. ET]The suspect in New York's deadliest terror attack since 9/11 had planned the attack for weeks and carried out the killings "in the name of ISIS," John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism, said on Wednesday.Authorities identified the suspect as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan native who came to the US legally in 2010. Saipov allegedly drove a rented truck onto a well-trafficked bike path just blocks from the World Trade Center on Tuesday afternoon.Eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured as the driver carved a path of destruction through several blocks of Lower Manhattan. Saipov crashed the rented truck into a school bus, left the vehicle brandishing imitation firearms and was shot by police, officials said. He survived and was taken into custody, police said.In carrying out the attack, Saipov relied on the playbook laid out by ISIS in recent years, officials said. (KGTV) — FBI investigators are asking the public for help finding the suspect who robbed a Chase Bank location in San Marcos on Wednesday.The FBI and San Diego Sheriff's Department say the suspect entered the Chase Bank at 348 South Twin Oaks Valley Road at about 11:45 a.m. and waited in line. He approached the counter and produced a handwritten note that said, "Give me all your 50's and 100's and give me the note back."The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the scene on foot.Investigators described the suspect as a white male, between 25 and 30 years old, standing 5' 11", and with a thin build.
