MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church looks to move forward as the investigation continues into what caused the church to catch fire.On Sunday, their temporary place of worship was right across the street from the church right in the Milwaukee Area Technical College auditorium. This was their first church service since Tuesday afternoon's massive fire that destroyed their historic church."We're all reminding each other, the church is God's people. We're going to miss the bricks and the mortar; we're going to mourn it. God will guide, God will provide. MOUNT PLEASANT, Wisc. — A Wisconsin woman claims a billion Foxconn factory could threaten her dream home. Kimberly Mahoney says her family spent nearly 0,000 customizing their dream home. They moved in February 2017. Her house rests where the new Foxconn development will be. Her comments come before a public hearing detailing plans, which is set for Tuesday night.Village President Dave DeGroot, who calls the billion investment a once in a generation opportunity, says the homes in the development and road improvement areas are being purchased at 140-percent market value. But Mahoney claims her home is not in the road improvement zone where she must agree to sell. She claims the village is trying to "skirt the law" by declaring her property as a blighted area on the development site."This area doesn't qualify for the new definition of blight that the Wisconsin Legislature put in Chapter 32 that says the properties are dilapidated or deteriorated, or run down, or are a safety or health risk," said Mahoney."I don't think its fair to characterize it that we are skirting any laws," said DeGroot. "We are being very upfront, very forthright, very transparent with how we are going about this process. NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island — A man allegedly faked his own death in order to avoid being sentenced in two open cases, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.Officials said Robert Berger, 25, used his attorney to provide a county prosecutor with a fake death certificate. The document had typos, which tipped off officials, according to the statement from the DA's office.“Typos and formatting errors gave up what we allege is a forged death certificated that this defendant used to avoid accountability for other crimes,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said in the statement released this week. “Submitting fake documents to prosecutors is always a bad idea, and while he’d have been caught regardless, failure to use spell check made this alleged fraud especially glaring.”In 2018, officials said Berger pleaded guilty to charges related to his possession of a stolen Lexus; he also pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny for attempting to steal a pickup truck.On Oct. 22, 2019, attorneys for Berger told the court their client had died and provided the court with a New Jersey Death Certificate, stating the defendant died by suicide.The attorney said Berger's fiancé provided them with the document.Upon inspection of the certificate, officials said the font size and type were not consistent in the document, and the word “Registry” in the department name was misspelled as “Regsitry."After calling to verify the certificate with officials in New Jersey, investigators confirmed the certificate was fraudulent.A copy of the false death certificate was also provided to officials in Suffolk County, where Berger also had a pending criminal case, officials said.After the discovery, Berger was arrested on Nov. 14, 2019, in Pennsylvania and was held for charges including providing a false identity to law enforcement.Berger was arraigned Tuesday and is due back in court on July 29. Montgomery County, Maryland Police reported Laura Wallen, a pregnant high school teacher who went missing last week, has been found dead. According to Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger, Wallen's body was found in a wooded area in Damascus, Maryland. Police have arrested her boyfriend, Tyler Tessier.Tessier was present with Wallen's family during a press conference on Monday. Police had already identified him as a person of interest in the case. Detectives asked the family to invite him to speak as part of the investigation. During the press conference, Tessier pleaded for Wallen to come home."There's so many people, so people that miss you," he said Monday. "There's so many people that were out looking. We haven't slept, we haven't eaten. We're just looking and praying that you're safe and I'm asking that you can just let us know that you're safe."Police have not determined a motive in the case, though during Wednesday's update, police said Tessier was living at several addresses, including one in Damascus.  1079
