Donald Trump's lawyers want the Washington court fight over Trump's accounting records to slow down.A recent congressional subpoena for the records could reveal financial information about Trump to Democrats in Congress, but the President says a federal judge is moving too quickly.On Monday, private attorneys representing Trump and his companies disagreed with a federal judge's decision to hold a comprehensive court hearing about the subpoena on Tuesday in Washington, according to court filings.The President's attorneys say they are not being given a fair shot in court, and have asked the judge to either narrow the topics covered in the hearing Tuesday or cancel the hearing outright."Because the hearing is tomorrow, the court's consolidation will force plaintiffs to try their case on only four days' notice, with no discovery, with little opportunity to assemble evidence, before Defendants have filed a single pleading, with no idea which facts are actually in dispute, and without a round of briefing focused on the merits," the President's legal team wrote.Congress' attorneys, however, said they are ready for the case to proceed as scheduled on Tuesday and do not want Tuesday's hearing to be canceled. The scheduled court hearing would be the first in a growing set of legal disputes between the Democratic-led House of Representatives and those it has subpoena for Trump's financial records.So far, Trump has sued the accounting firm Mazars USA as well as two banks, Deutsche Bank and Capitol One, to stop them from fulfilling House subpoenas. Separately, the Treasury Department has pushed back against Congress' request for Trump's tax returns held by the IRS.The accounting firm and banks haven't taken sides in the cases. Instead, the House general counsel is arguing opposite Trump to Judge Amit Mehta.In this case, the Democratic-controlled House Oversight Committee initially subpoenaed Mazars for all financial statements, communications and other documents related to Trump, a handful of his companies and his foundation from 2011 through 2018.Mazars became a target in the House investigation after former Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen accused Trump of fudging his wealth in an unsuccessful attempt to buy the Buffalo Bills football team and reduce his real estate tax burden.The committee sought the accounting firm's information on Trump by April 29.After Trump sued, Mehta temporarily halted the subpoena and was going to consider further questions about keeping the documents from Congress as the case progressed. But last Tuesday, Mehta said he was ready to hear the full arguments about the case in court, meaning his decision could come far earlier than previously expected.The House has argued that it has the authority to subpoena Trump's information, and says it is investigating potential constitutional, conflict of interest and ethical questions related to Trump's financial holdings. "The Committee is determining what legislation is required to ensure full public confidence in the officials charged with executing the nation's laws," the House wrote in a filing earlier this month.Trump's attorneys, conversely, say the President is being targeted by the Democrats for political reasons--that the subpoena doesn't have a legislative purpose. They also argue Trump will be harmed if his private information from his accountant is exposed.Generally, federal courts have refrained from limiting Congress' abilities.The House Financial Services and Intelligence committees are also investigating the President's finances and have delivered subpoenas to Deutsche Bank, Capitol One and other major banks.Trump, his businesses, and three of his children -- Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric -- are suing in New York federal court to stop the subpoenas to those banks and won't be heard by a judge until next week. 3864

Donald Stratton nearly made the ultimate sacrifice 79 years ago. Stratton was on board the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.According to the National Park Service, Stratton joined the Navy in 1940, and was assigned to the USS Arizona. On Dec. 7, 1941, Stratton was on the forward mast of the ship as it burned. A fellow sailor threw Stratton a line, which allowed Stratton to crawl to safety above the high water. But the flames took a toll on Stratton as burns covered 70% of his body. Stratton was then given a medical discharge the following September, but Stratton was not done serving his country. On Sunday, the U.S. National Park Service reported that Stratton has died at the age of 97, making him one of the last surviving service members from the Pearl Harbor attack. In Stratton's honor, the flags at the USS Arizona memorial in Hawaii were flown at half-staff. In January 1944, Stratton reenlisted and served through December 1946, obtaining the rank of Gunners Mate Second Class.The attack killed 2,390 service members, roughly half from the USS Arizona. Stratton had recently participated in a few remembrances of the 1941 attack, and was even invited into the Oval Office by President Donald Trump in 2017. He also wrote a 1280

Cato started a summer camp, where he takes kids to a BMX bike track, teaching them the basics of the sport.“BMX, bicycle motocross,” he explains. “What I do is, we race bikes.”For Cato, BMX was all about the thrill.“Oh man, it’s the adrenaline,” he says, grinning.But looking back on the hobby he picked up in his childhood, he realizes now that it was more than that; BMX gave him a hobby that kept him off the streets—that is until his father died.“I stopped racing BMX. I found the streets, going out there on the streets, man, and leaving my bikes,” he says. “And I ended up getting shot several times and paralyzed.”Eventually he found his way back. These days, he’s making sure kids in his hometown of Oakland have a chance to learn the skill that set him on the right track.Cato started the program Flood the Streets with Bikes, which aims to provide bikes to kids who don’t have them. DENVER, Colo. – Two people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Colorado, Governor Jared Polis announced Thursday, confirming the rapidly spreading virus had made it to the Centennial State.The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said Thursday a man in his 30s visiting Summit County tested “presumptive” positive for COVID-19. During a news conference Thursday afternoon, Polis said there was a second positive case of the new virus reported in Colorado. The two cases were not connected, Polis said.A presumptive case means testing was done at the state level and will need to be verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDPHE officials said the state is acting on all "presumptive" cases as if they were confirmed, "because a quick response is essential to minimize the spread of the virus."CDPHE officials also updated the total number of coronavirus tests in Colorado. Ninety-four cases have received results — 92 negative and two positive. Thirty case results are pending.The man who was visiting Summit County had known exposure through close contact with the new virus outside of Colorado, state health officials said in news release Thursday afternoon.Polis said the man had traveled to Italy in mid-February with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19. He flew to Colorado on Feb. 29 and landed at Denver International Airport, where he rented a vehicle and drove to Summit County where he skied at both Keystone and Vail Mountain Resort, according to the latest information from CDPHE. He spent time in Summit County with his fiancée and two other Colorado residents, who are all under quarantine now. At the time the man flew to DIA, he did not have symptoms, which made him a low risk for spreading the virus, Polis said."We are aware of the presumptive positive COVID-19 patient identified in Colorado," said DIA spokesperson Alex Renteria in a statement. "We are working with the CDPHE to verify the patient’s travel details. The CDC will make the ultimate decision whether passengers on his flight need to be notified and they would make the notification."On Tuesday he developed symptoms and went to St. Anthony's hospital in Summit County, Polis said. The hospital on Wednesday sent a sample from the man to a state lab, which received a positive result on Thursday.The hospital recommended that the man get to a lower altitude, so he was allowed to travel in a private vehicle with his fiancée to Jefferson County, where he was quarantined and in recovery Thursday. He will remain in quarantine for at least 14-21 days, Polis said, or until health officials clear him. The man's fiancée was also placed in quarantine.Rachel Hurlihy, the Colorado state epidemiologist, said the patient's travel to Summit County "did not put many other people at risk" and that officials were working to contact anyone who may have had contact with him.Four employees at the hospital were exposed to the man and they were being monitored Thursday.State health department officials said they are now working with local public health agencies to identify any close contacts who may have been exposed while the man was infectious. Health officials also said they will attempt to contact anyone who may have been exposed and monitor them for signs and symptoms of COVID-19."Like other states, we expected to begin seeing cases in Colorado and that is why we have been preparing for the past couple of months, in conjunction with local public health agencies and healthcare partners," said CDPHE executive director Jill Hunsaker Ryan. The two people will not be tested for coronavirus until they begin showing symptoms.In a news release Thursday night, the Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) said the second "presumptive" positive case involved an older woman from Douglas County who was exposed to COVID-19 during an international cruise. The woman was currently quarantined at her home, per CDC guidelines.Health officials there said the woman was isolated at home and had limited public contact, including with family members and healthcare providers. TCHD staff was monitoring people who may have been exposed, officials said.
