DUSHANBE, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe on Tuesday for a state visit and to attend the 8th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, scheduled for Thursday.     Hu flew to Dushanbe from Seoul after concluding a state visit to the Republic of Korea, and was met at the airport by Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon.     During his stay in Dushanbe, President Hu will hold talks with Rakhmon and sign bilateral cooperation deals related to political, economic and trade exchanges, according to a senior official of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.     In a written speech delivered at the airport, Hu said China and Tajikistan are friendly neighbors sharing common mountains and rivers.     Since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 16 years ago, bilateral relations have witnessed smooth development with tangible results achieved in political, economic, security and other areas, he said. DUSHANBE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Leaders attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Tajik capital issued a joint declaration Thursday on security, energy and several other issues.     The declaration was signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao, his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon and his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov.     ON USE OF FORCE     The leaders agreed that any attempt to solve problems by merely resorting to force could not work and would only hinder a comprehensive settlement of local conflicts, the declaration said.     A comprehensive solution to existing problems can be found only by taking into account the interests of all parties involved and including them all in the negotiation process rather than isolating any of them, said the declaration.     Any attempt to strengthen a country's own security at the expense of that of others is detrimental to maintaining global security and stability, it said.     On the issue of South Ossetia, the SCO members expressed their deep concerns over the tension triggered by the South Ossetia conflict, and called on relevant parties to solve existing problems peacefully through dialogue, strive for reconciliation and push for negotiations. SINGAPORE, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The first informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Six-Party Talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue concluded here on Wednesday with "very meaningful results", Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said.     In a news briefing after the close-door talks on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial Meeting, Yang said that the Six-Party Talks have "very meaningful results", adding that they exchanged views and deepened understanding and expressed the will of continued pushing forward the Six-Party Talks further.     Yang said, "with joint efforts, the six parties agreed that the initial success has been achieved" and the informal talks "made useful preparation for the formal Six-Party Ministerial Talks in early day".     The Chinese foreign minister said the six parties reaffirmed they will earnestly fulfill their commitment to the signed joint statements and related documents.     Yang said all agreed the Six-Party Talks are an important platform for exchanging views and enhancing understanding, adding that the six parties should continue to enhance their exchanges so as to "achieve mutual benefit and win-win progress". Chief delegates of the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue ended talks on July 12, agreeing to establish a verification mechanism for denuclearization.

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin urged here on Wednesday that the role of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in scientific and democratic policy-making should be strengthened.     "We should increase the forms of political consultation and make it an important aspect in making scientific and democratic policies," Jia, chairman of the 11th CPPCC National Committee, said at a seminar held by political advisory body.     Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed improving democratic supervision in three phases: information, communication and feedback.     Jia said the work in the latter half of 2008 would be extensive and tough, and he urged officials at all levels to closely track changing international economic trends and research the new issues emerging in domestic economic development.
