SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A brush fire in the Japatul Valley area exploded in size in about an hour on Saturday, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.The Valley Fire ignited off Spirit Trail and Japatul Road, just southeast of Alpine, just before 2:50 p.m., according to Cleveland National Forest. The fire had scorched about 1,500 acres and was 0% contained as of 5:50 p.m.Fire officials said the dangerous rate of spread was pushing the fire southwest toward Lawson Valley. According to Cal Fire Cpt. Kendal Bortisser says the intense heat and rugged topography of the area are also posing a challenge for crews. San Diego Humane society says an emergency response team has been sent to the area to assist in evacuating any pets or large animals.A smoke advisory was issued by the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District. The agency said smoke from the Valley Fire was impacting several parts of the county, particularly in the north. If anyone smells smoke, it's advised that they limit their activity outdoors."Much of the smoke is high above ground level and can be seen throughout the northern half of San Diego County, but is not necessarily affecting people on the ground. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Weather forecasters are warning of "near-critical fire weather conditions" Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in San Diego County because of developing Santa Ana winds."Areas west of the mountains will see a sharp rise in temperatures early this week," the National Weather Service said, "with coastal locations potentially experiencing their hottest conditions so far this year."Inland areas and especially deserts will remain very warm through Thursday, the NWS said, before widespread cooling takes hold late in the week.Early morning satellite images showed widespread clouds extending to the coastal slopes, but much thinner than Saturday and with less uniform coverage, forecasters said. With clouds breaking up, clearer skies Sunday afternoon will allow temperatures to rise several degrees higher than on Saturday.Santa Ana winds will strengthen on Monday, with maximum gusts of 40 to 45 mph as humidity plummets, resulting in elevated fire weather conditions, the NWS said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont woman received a big shock when she looked at her doorbell camera video and found out who vandalized her truck.Every time Kris Larrabee looks at the scratch across the hood of her truck, she gets more upset."Deeply angry and deeply hurt," said Larrabee. The damage appeared Thursday morning after her husband parked the truck in the driveway the night before, blocking part of the sidewalk. "He came back from a long road trip, exhausted. He parked it there so he could unload it the next day," said Larrabee.Just before 6 a.m. on Caywood Street, their Ring video shows an older woman walking a dog, before she pauses to look at the truck. Immediately, she walks across the driveway and runs her hand along the hood, leaving behind a new scratch. Larrabee says repairs will total several thousand dollars."I couldn't believe it. I was shocked," said Larrabee.The identity of the culprit made her heart sink."She's a mature woman. At her age, she should have known better," said Larrabee.Larrabe was even more taken aback, because her other car has been keyed eight times in the driveway in the past year. She had suspected teenagers. In all, neighbors have reported dozens of similar incidents in the past year. A block away, the owner of a van and another vehicle tells 10News he has also been keyed eight times. In all those incidents, the sidewalk was partially blocked. The neighborhood is an older one with shorter driveways. "This is not the solution. She could have left a note. She could have come to us. There's no justification for the anger taken out on a neighborhood," said Larrabee.A detective has been assigned to the case and sources tell 10News police do know who the woman is. 1739
