CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Despite recent shark sighting, thousands of people headed to the beach for the pre-holiday weekend. But instead of sharks, dozens of people left the beach after being stung by stingrays.Beautiful Coronado is home to majestic creatures, including great white sharks. "We do think that the great white shark populations are increasing," Heidi Dewar, research biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center said. She believes the population increase is linked to the implementation of fishing regulations in the 1990s. "In 1994, California pushed all the net-based fisheries outside of state water, which is three nautical miles out. And what that did was that basically protected most of the nursery habitat of the juvenile sharks on the coast," Dewar said. "About the same time, the UN banned these high seas directed at fisheries, which were killing some adult white sharks."Last week, two juvenile white sharks were spotted about a half a mile offshore from the Coronado coast. There were no shark attacks like the one last year in Encinitas, where a 13-year-old boy was bitten in the shoulder while lobster spearfishing. Still, the city officials in Coronado notified beachgoers to be on the lookout. That did not stop 11-year-old Tobias Appel from diving in." We just came here to boogie board and have a bunch of fun," Tobias said. He and his family from Phoenix are vacationing in Coronado. They were having a great time until Tobias was stung by a stingray."Today is not my lucky day," Tobias said. This was his first time getting stung by a ray. We met him as he was sticking his foot into a hot water bath at the lifeguard station. "It is under. Right there," he said. In the hour Tobias was at the lifeguard station neutralizing the venom, we saw several others being carried in for emergency treatment. Lifeguards said warm water, low tide, and a packed beach is the perfect formula for a stingray warning. "One of the most amazing things about the ocean is that right there we have wilderness," Dewar said. "And with the wilderness, we have wild animals. So that's definitely a side of the ocean that people need to keep in mind when they go swimming or surfing."Biologists say remember, this summer when you are going to the beach, you are stepping into the animals' homes. Citigroup has terminated a manager following an investigation into his role operating a prominent website dedicated to QAnon conspiracy theory, according to Bloomberg.Jason Gelinas was placed on paid leave in mid-September after he was identified by Logically.ai as the operator of QMap.pub and it’s affiliated apps.“Mr. Gelinas is no longer employed by Citi,” the company said in a statement to Bloomberg. “Our code of conduct includes specific policies that employees are required to adhere to, and when breaches are identified, the firm takes action.”Gelinas was a manager in Citigroup;s technology department. The company says employees have to disclose outside business activity where they receive compensation.Gelinas was reportedly earning about ,000 a month from a crowdfunding site supporting the QAnon site he ran. (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized late Monday night after police say he was stabbed while on an MTS bus.According to Coronado police, the stabbing took place along State Route 75 and Leyte Road around 11:30 p.m.Passengers on the bus say it began when two men got into an argument.Witnesses say the victim was stabbed six times.The victim was taken to UCSD Medical Center, and his current condition is unclear.Police say one person is in custody. 469

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Like any other case, President Donald Trump’s positive COVID-19 test will set into motion a series of events designed to determine who the president might have been in close contact with. That investigation—called contact tracing—is considered by many experts to be one of the best ways of handling new outbreaks and potential COVID-19 clusters.President Trump announced early Friday morning that he and the first lady had tested positive for the virus. The president had been in Cleveland earlier in the week for the first presidential debate. The incubation period for COVID-19 is anywhere between two to 14 days, although in many cases the period is between three to five days. It remains unclear where and how President Trump was infected with the virus.Members of the small crowd that attended the debate in person were required to be tested for the virus. Anyone with a positive test was not allowed inside.In typical cases, once a person has tested positive for the virus, contact tracers—which act almost like disease detectives—will ask the patient a series of questions about their activities prior to the positive test. Eventually, the contact tracers will work to find out who the patient might have been in close contact with.Generally, close contact is defined as another person who may have been within six feet of the patient for at least 10 minutes. The people identified as close contacts will be alerted by the contact tracers of their possible exposure and risk of infection. All parties are then asked to self-quarantine for at least 14 days.Although the close contacts are not apprised of the identity of the person who tested positive for the virus, sometimes they are not forthcoming with information to contact tracers.“When we call the contacts, you get a variety of responses.
