Beavers have been gnawing away at one of the towns parks in South Windsor, Connecticut. The animals have left the people divided. Some of them are very upset after learning the animals were trapped and possibly killed. As much as people didn’t want these beavers to be hurt, town officials say the beavers were causing too much damage to the park. Beavers are known to chew up trees and build dams on the water, which was happening at South Windsor’s Nevers Road Park.“They’ve been cutting down a lot of trees and I can understand because they’re very destructive,” said Yvette Smith of South Windsor.Homeowners by the water worried about potential flooding along Lake Avenue.Trees were ruined and on the brink of falling over on the trail that’s closed for repairs. But the animals also grew a fair share of supporters.“We need to learn how to coexist. We have wonderful wildlife we have to consider and if there were better options I at least would’ve liked them at least explored,” said Carrie Morse of South Windsor.“(My daughter) was texting me while I was at the meeting. ‘Mom, please do what you can to save those beavers,’ so it was a rough discussion this morning before she went to school when she found out they were no longer there,” said Carrie Morse. On Tuesday afternoon, the town manager says if the beavers were trapped and killed, it ultimately happened through the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection agency.“No matter what we do we’re in trouble. If you do nothing and somebody does get hurt and does get a public safety issue, somebody attacked by beavers,” said South Windsor Town Manager Matthew Galligan.Galligan said DEEP allows 1,500 beaver kills a year.“If you don’t protect the park you’re not going to have anything,” said Smith.Town officials say the trail at Nevers Road Park will be back open in about a week. 1871

Best Buy has succeeded during the online shopping era by beefing up its customer service. Once again, the retailer will lean on its customer service chops by expanding its partnership with Apple to offer repairs on iPhones and MacBooks at all of its stores. The two companies announced the agreement on Wednesday. Best Buy had offered Apple-certified repairs at select stores and will now bring repairs to its nearly 1,000 stores across the United States. Best Buy's specially trained Geek Squad employees will fix customers' Apple devices. For Best Buy, the expanded deal with Apple will give its existing customers another reason to visit its physical stores and could help the retailer attract new shoppers."This will drive traffic to Best Buy stores," said Michael Pachter, managing director at Wedbush Securities. "If the repair is something that will take an hour, the consumer will be captive in the Best Buy store and likely to purchase something."Best Buy has worked in recent years to improve customer service at its stores, a key advantage over Amazon and other online players. The retailer has positioned itself as the expert in a complicated consumer electronics market. It retrained sales workers so they could offer better advice to puzzled shoppers having trouble deciding which TV model or smart watch to buy."Our business strategy is based on offering superior levels of customer service," Best Buy said in its annual securities filing.Best Buy's relationship with Apple is also critical to its business. Apple is one of Best Buy's largest suppliers, along with Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, Sony and LG. Last year, Apple expanded its distribution to Costco, a move many analysts believed was a blow to Best Buy.Best Buy has around 900 Apple mini-stores at its locations that offer Apple products. Often, Apple mini-stores are placed at the front of Best Buy's big-box stores."Apple would say that Best Buy provides the best retail experience for their products and services outside of their own home," former Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly told analysts last year. For Apple, the expanded deal with Best Buy gives customers new access points for repairs outside of Apple's own store network. Apple said it has tripled the number of authorized third-party service locations in the past three years."We're always looking at how we can reliably expand our network of trained technicians and we're excited to partner with every Best Buy store," Tara Bunch, Apple's vice president of AppleCare, said in a prepared statement. 2537
Apple unveiled its latest slate of iPhones on Tuesday at a widely-covered media event at its campus in Cupertino, California. The new lineup includes the iPhone 11, an entry-level device, as well as the higher-end iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, which have four-figure price tags. The company's iPhone sales have slumped in recent quarters in part because consumers are waiting longer to upgrade their smartphones. So, is it actually worth it to upgrade to these new models? The short answer: It depends how much you care about better cameras and improved battery life. Here's a look at the key differences between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and two comparable models from the previous year: the iPhone XR, which was the low-end model released in 2018, and the iPhone XS, the higher-end model that year.PriceiPhone 11: Starts at 9iPhone XR: Starts at 9 (originally 9)iPhone 11 Pro: Starts at 9iPhone XS: Like the 11 Pro, the XS originally started at 9. As speculation has grown in recent weeks on the status of this month's NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, Sr. Vice President of NCAA Basketball Dan Gavitt said in an interview on Sunday that the NCAA is "definitively planning" on the tournaments being held as scheduled, in front of spectators. The men's basketball tournament will be played in 14 different venues from coast to coast. Most of the venues will be full with 15,000 to 20,000 spectators at any one time. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, host of this year's Men's Final Four, could see crowds of more than 70,000. Largely, sports in the United States have remained unaffected by the coronavirus, while other major events and concerts have been canceled or postponed nationwide. Sporting events in overseas are opting to take a different direction, as several European leagues are playing matches in closed stadiums. Professional baseball in Japan has been curtailed amid coronavirus fears. One major event that did cancel was the BNB Paribas Open in Palm Springs, California. But the tennis event so far has been an outlier. Gavitt told CBS that the NCAA has an advisory panel that is in contact with the CDC on a daily basis. He said the NCAA's group of experts are monitoring events on a daily basis. "The guidance we're getting from our experts is playing without fans is not called for," Gavitt said on CBS. One change sports leagues have taken is one many fans might not notice. The NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS jointly announced on Monday that locker rooms will be closed to journalists. Despite community spread of COVID-19 in the Seattle area, the Seattle Sounders of the MLS played in front of an announced crowd of over 33,000, marking one of the largest ticketed sporting events in the United States in recent weeks. At Saturday's game versus the Columbus Crew, additional hand sanitation stations were installed. Although the game went on as planned, Saturday's crowd was the smallest for a Sounders game in more than a decade. The game concluded with players shaking hands, despite advice from health officials to conduct social distancing. 2135
