When you held that just-tragically-orphaned baby, did you have a twinge of guilt in using him as a prop? Did you think about how his mother cradled him with her body to protect him from a white supremacists’ gunfire, & about how he’ll never be able to be cradled by her again?— Serenity Now! While foot traffic at traditional indoor malls have seen a decline in the last decade, outlet malls are on the rise. According to the National Real Estate Investor, 6.8 million square feet of outlet store space has opened in the United States since 2015. On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission issued tips on shopping at outlet stores. One tip some might not realize is that often outlet stores sell items that are of lesser quality than at normal stores. According to the FTC, many outlets sell items not available in regular stores. While these items come at a discount, they might not be the same quality. "For example, a jacket might not be fully lined, the stripes on a shirt may not match up at the seams, a t-shirt may be made of a lighter-weight fabric, and shoes might be made with synthetic materials rather than real leather," the FTC said in its consumer tips. "If top quality is important, you may want to shop elsewhere. But if it’s the brand, style, or look that’s key, you may be in the right place."The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation shows the difference between items found at outlets versus items found in regular retailers. There are other opportunities to save money at outlets."Some outlet centers also offer shopper club memberships," the FTC said. "If you join, you’ll get information about sales, events, exclusive offers from merchants, and other perks. With some clubs, you can earn gift cards and other rewards at various 'spend levels.' Just be sure to read the fine print before you get to the checkout." 1554

Two people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed and 16 other children hurt in a stabbing spree in Japan on Tuesday — a rare act of public violence in a country considered one of the safest in the world. The attack took place near a park in the city of Kawasaki, about 13 miles (21 kilometers) from Tokyo, authorities said.Kawasaki Police said a total of 19 people were stabbed, including the two victims who died. Police said the girl killed was named Hanako Kuribayashi and a male victim was called Satoshi Oyama, a 39-year-old government employee. The suspected attacker also died from a "self-inflicted wound," Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. Police officers previously told NHK that the man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, had stabbed himself in the neck.Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the attack was "heartbreaking.""We must keep our children safe at all costs," Abe told reporters. "I've instructed the related ministers to take immediate action to ensure the children's safety in going to and leaving school."NHK reported earlier Tuesday that three people -- including an elementary school student -- were in critical condition. It's unclear if the girl who died was among them.Japan is considered one of the world's safest developed countries. It boasts one of the world's lowest homicide rates, 1342

We know adults do the cheesiest things online at times, but a new internet challenge takes the cake. Or in this case, the cheese. Popping up across social media is the 'cheesed challenge,' where parents and older siblings record themselves flinging slices of cheese at babies' faces. The trend was started Tuesday by Michigan dad Charles Amara, who posted the video with the caption: "You asked for it, here it is! Attack of the cheese Episode 2. He wasn't happy after this one..."In the video, the father is seen approaching the baby with the dairy dangling in his hand. He then sends the cheese flying onto the toddler's face, leaving him visibly stunned. With more than 142,000 shares and almost 10,000 comments, the video has gone viral in just a few days. The peculiar prank had already taken on a life of its own, before the original poster decided to remove the video. Inspired followers have started posting videos of flying cheese and the babies' reaction. 977

US-born giant panda Bei Bei arrived finally at his new home in Ya'an, in China's Sichuan province, on Thursday. The four-year-old arrived in China on Wednesday after a transcontinental flight on a FedEx plane dubbed the “Panda Express”.He was then transferred by lorry to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center.State media said Bei Bei was in good health and had tucked into a breakfast of bamboo upon arrival. The panda will be quarantined for one month while he adjusts to his new home.State media said he would have to get used to the time difference, local foods and the Sichuanese dialect.Bei Bei was conceived through artificial insemination and born to the National Zoo’s Mei Xiang and Tian Tian in 2015.His name, which means “treasure” in Chinese, was selected by then-first lady Michelle Obama and China's first lady Peng Liyuan. The panda quickly became a favorite with visitors — and on the zoo’s popular Panda Cam.Fans bid a bittersweet farewell to the cub online with the hashtag #byebyebeibei.Once Bei Bei reaches sexual maturity at age six, he will enter China’s captive breeding program. The program is credited with bringing giant pandas back from the brink of extinction. They live mainly in Sichuan’s bamboo-covered mountains and are threatened by habitat loss. 1325
