CARMEL, Ind. -- A 22-year-old man stole a popular English bulldog from a family's yard last year, leading to a social media campaign to try and find him, police say.Reid Albrecht, 22, is accused of stealing a bulldog, named Gus, from a yard in the 3000 block of Hazel Foster Drive. The theft happened in October 2017. During the Carmel Police Department's investigation of Gus' disappearance, multiple people said they remembered seeing Albrecht with a bulldog that matched the description. Albrecht had been telling people he adopted the bulldog from the Humane Society, but neither the Indianapolis nor the Hamilton County Humane Society had a record of him adopting an animal.Albrecht was known to live with his father at a house about 1,000 feet from the victim's house. At the time of his arrest, Albrecht was in jail serving a 180-day sentence for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The Facebook page "Gus is Missing" has nearly 1,900 likes, with many people sharing and commenting that they hope Gus will be returned to his home. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The U.S. government will pay Moderna Inc. up to .525 billion to secure 100 million doses of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Defense (DoD) made the announcement Tuesday.HHS says Moderna will manufacture the vaccine doses while clinical trials are still underway to expedite the traditional development timeline and get vaccines to the public as soon as possible. The Trump administration hopes to deliver the vaccines by the end of the year, so long as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorizes their use.“In creating a vaccine portfolio for Operation Warp Speed, the Trump Administration is increasing the likelihood that the United States will have at least one safe, effective vaccine by 2021,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. “Today’s investment represents the next step in supporting this vaccine candidate all the way from early development by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health, through clinical trials, and now large-scale manufacturing, with the potential to bring hundreds of millions of safe and effective doses to the American people.”HHS says the vaccine doses will be delivered to government-designated locations across the country and the U.S. could acquire up to an additional 400 million doses of the vaccine. If viable, the vaccines would be available to the American people at no cost, according to HHS. Healthcare professionals could charge for the cost of administering the vaccine, though. The vaccine, called mRNA-1273, has been co-developed by Moderna and scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health. The third phase of the vaccine trial, which began July 27, is the first government-funded Phase 3 clinical trial for a COVID-19 vaccine in the nation, according to HHS.“We appreciate the confidence of the U.S. government in our mRNA vaccine platform and the continued support,” said Stéphane Bancel, Moderna’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are advancing the clinical development of mRNA-1273 with the ongoing Phase 3 study being conducted in collaboration with NIAID and BARDA. In parallel, we are scaling up our manufacturing capability with our strategic partners, Lonza, Catalent and Rovi, to address this global health emergency with a safe and effective vaccine.” 2402

Carrie Underwood silenced any questions about her readiness to return to the spotlight in perhaps one of the most anticipated performances of the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards.PHOTOS: See red carpet arrivals from the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music AwardsUnderwood has been largely missing from the mainstream country music scene since a nasty fall at her Nashville home late in 2017. Just weeks after the Country Music Awards she fell down a set of stairs and later shared with fans that she had to have 40-50 stitches on her face. Adding some additional drama to her big return, Underwood did not walk the red carpet at this year's ACM Awards. ALSO: Sugarland dropping new track with Taylor Swift next weekWhile Underwood looked flawless onstage in a black and silver fringe dress, her vocals clearly dominated the moment as she belted out her new single, "Cry Pretty". GALLERY: TAKE A LOOK INSIDE THE 53RD ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDSShe got a standing ovation that went out for a measurable time inside the MGM Grand Arena as fellow country music performers and fans welcomed her back to the main stage. Fellow singer and winner of three ACM Awards Miranda Lambert touched on Underwood's performance backstage after winning Female Vocalist of the Year."It makes me proud to be a woman in this industry when I see her stand up there and do that," Lambert said.  1431

Can Singapore Airlines do luxury better than its rivals? The Asian carrier on Thursday unveiled a new cabin design for its fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbo jets, featuring double beds, swivel chairs and personal wardrobes in private first-class staterooms. The new design includes six spacious suites that boast 32-inch flat-screen TVs, vanity counters and luxury leather furnishings. In business class, couples traveling together can drop the divider between seats to create a fully-reclining double bed in the center column. But a decade after it first introduced the A380 -- the world's largest passenger jet -- Singapore's own luxury standard has been leapfrogged by competitors in the Middle East like Dubai's Emirates Airline and Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways. The Gulf carriers' first-class offerings include on-board showers, fold-away beds and sliding privacy doors. Etihad even boasts private butlers for high-flying guests on some routes."Singapore Airlines is clearly attempting to reestablish its leadership position at the front of the aircraft," said Greg Waldron, managing editor of aviation industry website FlightGlobal.Corrine Png, an analyst at research firm Crucial Perspective, agreed, saying Singapore needed the redesign because its current offering "looks tired now" and rivals have caught up. The airline said it's spending 0 million on the overhaul. The airline has struggled to compete with Emirates whose prices are generally cheaper.Waldron pointed out that Singapore's new design features fewer first-class suites than its most-crowded A380 did previously -- and also has more economy seats. That should reduce the carrier's costs per passenger by adding more seats it's likely to fill."While suites generate publicity and headlines, the ticket price is far beyond the reach of most passengers," he said.Png notes that Singapore has also focused on lighter and thinner materials in its new cabins in an effort to cut fuel costs.Singapore's big unveil comes after a bumpy period. In May, it reported a surprise quarterly loss in the face of strong competition from Gulf airlines. The prompted Singapore Airlines chief executive Goh Choon Phong to kick off a root-and-branch review of the business. The airline swung back to profit in its most recent quarter. It's not the only Asian carrier facing turbulence. Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific lost roughly 0 million in the first six months of its financial year as it tried to fend off growing pressure from mainland Chinese airlines.Singapore said it plans to roll out the redesign across its entire fleet of A380s. The carrier is due to receive the first of five new aircraft next month and will also retrofit the 14 A380s it already has in service by 2020.The airline was the first to fly the superjumbo a decade ago.The A380 has had a troubled commercial history, with Airbus cutting annual production from 30 aircraft to 12 starting next year -- and then just nine in 2019. Customers have instead generally preferred smaller twin-engine aircraft like Airbus' A350 and Boeing's 777 and 787. 3136
