SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – There’s a hidden gem right off the I-5 freeway in Mission Hills that took over 20 years to create. “It’s just been a wonderful thing,” said Edna Harper, designer of Harper’s Topiary Garden. Her garden sits on the massive hillside of her home and has been attracting visitors for years. More than 50 whimsical characters are featured, each one inspired by Harper’s world travels. The project started as a bet between Harper and her husband."My husband said to me, 'Oh, I don't think you can do this,'" Harper said. "He didn't know how much it was gonna cost him ... he said, 'alright if you win, I'll pay for the gardener and the water.'" In addition to the elephants, the garden also has characters like cats, puppies, a whale, and Harper’s favorite: the hitchhiker. Harper’s gardener Pedro has been helping to bring her visions to life. “My favorite part is seeing all the people come by and take pictures,” Harper said. The garden has become her canvas and a place for your imagination to run wild. “Whatever you want it to be, that’s what my garden is,” Harper said. “It makes people happy, and that makes me happy.” If you decide to visit the property off Vine and Union in Mission Hills, the owners ask that you don’t climb or destroy the plans. They also suggest taking pictures from across the street to get the full view. 1638

(AP) -- Not even the coronavirus could stop the 30th annual Ig Nobel ceremony, which annually recognizes sometimes dubious but always humorous scientific achievement. The event is usually held live at Harvard University, but Thursday's awards presentation was a virtual prerecorded affair. One winner is an anthropologist who tried to fashion a knife out of frozen human feces. Another is a researcher who found that people who study insects for a living are creeped out by spiders. President Donald Trump and several other world leaders also won Ig Nobels for insisting they're smarter than scientists in dealing with the pandemic. 640
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Russia had "no impact on our vote" in the 2016 presidential contest and vowed to combat any attempts to meddling in the 2018 midterms."The Russians had no impact on our votes. Certainly there was meddling. Probably there was meddling from other countries," Trump said during a news conference alongside Swedish Prime Minister Stefan L?fven.Asked whether he was concerned Russia could have an effect on the midterms, Trump insisted the US would prevent any election interference efforts."No, because we'll counteract whatever they do," Trump said.He encouraged states to include an analog backup to avoid attempts to hack electronic systems."You have to be very vigilant. One of the things we're learning, it's always good to have a paper back-up system of voting. Called paper. Not highly complex computers. Paper," he said. 889
"Help me, I'm Amanda Berry. I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for ten years and I'm here, I'm free now."It's been five years since we heard those words from Amanda Berry, one of three girls who went missing for years and were finally freed on May 6, 2013 from the house of horrors in Cleveland. 315
