KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man whose wife was found dismembered in two ice coolers has been charged in connection with dismembering and abandoning her body. Justin Rey is accused of abandonment of a corpse and endangering the welfare of a child. Lenexa police officers went to U-Haul on October 24 to check on Rey and his two children, who were reportedly sleeping in a storage unit. During the investigation, a woman’s remains were found in the unit. Court documents officially identified the remains as Rey’s wife. The documents said Rey’s wife, who family identified as Jessica Monteiro Rey, was found dismembered in coolers. According to court records, Rey was dragging several containers at the U-Haul facility when police spoke to him. Rey told officers his wife died after childbirth several days earlier, and her body was in the two containers. Court documents said Rey told police he spent two days with his wife’s body before dismembering her. Rey told detectives his two children were in the hotel room as he dismembered and disposed of his wife’s body. Prosecutors requested a bond of 0,000 cash. Rey is in custody in Johnson County. (AP) — The next Mississippi state flag could have a magnolia instead of the Confederate battle emblem.It’s been nearly two months since legislators acted under pressure to retire the old flag with the rebel symbol that’s widely seen as racist.A flag commission voted Wednesday to recommend a design with the state flower. La Jolla, CA- (KGTV) San Diego researchers are looking for people who have recovered from COVID-19 who are willing to donate their blood to be screened for antibodies. Dennis Burton, PhD, is one of the world's leading experts on antibodies. Burton is the chair of the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research. His primary focus was developing vaccines for HIV and other infectious diseases, but now his priority is on the novel coronavirus. "What we are looking for is for folks who have diagnosed COVID-19 and have recovered. And preferably, we would like individuals who have recovered some time ago. So, ideally even a month, or two months since they had the illness. That gives time for the antibodies to the virus to have matured and become really good. We're after finding really good antibodies," said Burton. According to Burton, finding patients can be challenging because so many may not realize they were infected." We've heard from quite a few people, mostly, though, they were not actually diagnosed. They may well have had COVID-19, but we're not sure," said Burton. Once they get confirmed patients, the research involves two critical steps."One is we clone the antibodies, and test them, first of all, in test tubes basically and see how well, they do against the virus. Then, later we may try them in some model systems. So, that's what we would do, first of all, and if we can find really good antibodies, then it would be up to pharmaceutical companies to make them in large quantities for use in a therapeutic activity that's the first thing," said Burton. The next step involves using the antibodies to make a vaccine."That's a much, much longer process, but it's one that could be important," said Burton. Burton said there's still a lot to learn."There's also challenges in not knowing the behavior of the virus. We're very careful cause we don't really know too much about it. It's only emerged 3 or 4 months ago," said Burton. Scientists estimate a vaccine could still be at least a year away. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A construction worker killed on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla was remembered Friday by his colleagues. Sergio Cruz, 32, was among five workers injured Thursday morning near Mandler Hall at Muir Lane and Scholars Drive. A 35-foot wall of rebar fell on Cruz, Cal/OSHA said. He later died at the hospital. Cruz and the other injured workers are employees of Clark Construction. The company said Thursday it was conducting an investigation. The San Diego County Building & Construction Trades Council said Cruz had worked in construction for eight years. “He was a skilled tradesman who was well-respected by those working alongside him,” said council spokesperson Carol Kim.The crew was building a mixed-use dorm and classroom building at the time of the accident. 805
