Mail is adding more fonts and formatting options, Notes has a new look, and the Reminders app has been beefed up with a number of new features, including tagging people and making smarter to-dos.Apple Maps, which has struggled to compete with Google Maps since it launched in 2012, is getting a new, more detailed look at the end of this year in the US. Apple says it rebuilt the app from the ground up by sending hundreds of planes and cars with custom sensors and lidar sensors over 4 million miles across the country. It's also adding other Google Maps-like features, such as favorite locations and interactive street view, which it calls "look around."With iOS 13, you'll be able to share your name and your photo (or custom emoji) in Messages. It's adding more personalization options for its "memojis," including makeup, piercings, more teeth options like gaps and grills, earrings, additional hair options, hats and glasses. The avatars will work on more devices, Mail, and even some third-party messaging apps like WeChat.The iOS update will also impact Apple's AirPods, which will be able to read your incoming email to you in Siri's voice, and let you share audio from your AirPods. The new feature, called AirPods Audio Sharing, will supposedly let you bring your AirPods close to someone else's and — with permission — tap a button to start listening to what they're rocking out to. Siri will support live radio with third-party services like IHeartRadio.Speaking of music, remember the HomePod? Apple's underwhelming take on the smart speaker was launched two years ago, and now it's adding some new features, including being able to recognize the voices of different users — just like Amazon and Google's smart speakers.Privacy is, again, at the center of Apple's sales pitchApple is launching its own login platform called Sign in with Apple, which will let you log in to outside apps with FaceID. It has the option to hide your real email address and instead give each app a randomly generated email address. Google, Twitter and Facebook have their own sign-on tools already, but some security experts advise against using a single sign-in service across multiple sites, in case your one login is compromised. Sign In With Apple will work across Apple devices, including Macs and iPhones, but only with apps that update to support the feature.Other privacy updates include a new option to limit how much tracking information third-party apps can collect. Now you can choose to allow an app to get location information just once, as well as receive reports on background tracking. Apple is also blocking the ability for outside apps to sneakily gather location information via your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.A more independent Apple Watch can track periods, monitor soundApple is bringing a number of new tools to the Apple Watch as part of watchOS 6, many of which will help the watch run more independently of the iPhone. The Watch will have its own App Store, a calculator with tip tools, an audiobooks app, and Apple's Voice Memos app, for more subtly recording audio (check local laws). It's also adding a pair of new health tools. Cycle Tracker adds tools for tracking periods and fertility -- tools that are also being added to the iOS Health app. A new Noise app uses the built-in microphone to measure environmental sound and warn you when the decibels are too high and could hurt your hearing. The computer is silver, covered in holes and has a handle on top. But professionals will likely care more about what is inside: a 28-core Intel chip and 1.5 TB of system memory. CANTON, Mich. — Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has dismissed a case against a 10-year-old Canton, Michigan, boy.The boy was previously formally charged with aggravated assault after a schoolyard game in April.On April 29, students at the Canton school were playing a game called "Tips" in the schoolyard with a rubber ball similar to a dodge ball. According to a release, the game doesn't involve throwing the ball at other players.Reports state that once the game was over, it is alleged that the 10-year-old took the ball and intentionally threw it with force, causing the 9-year-old to suffer a concussion and cuts to his face.The injured child's mother then made a complaint to local police.Worthy released the following statement on the dismissal of charges. Read the full statement below:This case came to us as a not-In-custody case - that means that there was never an arrest. Efforts were made to resolve this matter before it was sent to us for a charge consideration. The mother of the alleged victim had every right to go to the authorities and the authorities had an obligation to investigate. When this case was reviewed by my office, no one paid attention the race of either party. It is categorically wrong to suggest that this was charged based on race or geography.There has been quite a bit of inaccurate reporting in this case. There are also facts that played into our decision that have not, due to ethical rules, been reported. I will never try our cases in the court of public opinion or outcry. Petition drives, protests, and other public so called pressure certainly have their place in a democracy. But they should never impact what is done in a case and should not affect outcomes. Justice always should. The Juvenile Justice System, while by no means perfect, is markedly different from the adult systems in many ways for many reasons. There are certainly more options available and there should be. As I stated yesterday, often times in the appropriate matter, the result is dismissal, getting services provided, diversionary programs, and other options. Many times, cases should not be in the systems if other solutions can be implemented. Many times we will “go back to the table” and craft results and can do that if all parties cooperate. I have always been willing to keep an open mind when warranted, especially in juvenile cases. Admirably, that was tried here but we were not the table.I have no doubt that both families involved love their children and want the best for them. But I do think that there is a better way to go forward at this time. And the cooperation of all parties is needed.While the charge in this case is certainly sustainable, I have instructed my staff to dismiss this case today. It is my earnest hope that both sides will come back to the table to work out a solution that benefits both of these children. Again, I am confident that both of them are highly valued. At least 465 cases of measles have been reported in the United States since January 1, according to the latest numbers shared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday.That's 78 more cases than the number reported last week and includes cases reported to the CDC by state health departments as of April 4.Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Nevada reported their first cases of measles this year, bringing the total number of states reporting cases to 19. The other states that have reported measles cases this year are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington.The total number of measles cases nationwide this year "is the second-greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since measles was eliminated in 2000," the CDC says. That threshold was reached last week when the national total for the year surpassed last year's total of 372. The largest outbreak was in 2014, when there were 667 cases reported nationwide due to several large outbreaks.Measles is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable respiratory illness characterized by a rash of flat red spots.
