While all hands are on deck to combat the novel coronavirus, there is another virus that experts are keeping their eyes on – the EEE virus, commonly known as the "Triple E."It stands for eastern equine encephalitis. You may have heard of the virus last year when we started seeing more cases outside of Gulf Coast states, where the virus is normally seen."Triple E" can cause inflammation in the brain, which can be deadly. In 2018, the United States only had six cases of "Triple E." In 2019, that number rose to 38, an alarming number considering about a third of people who become infected are expected to die. With coronavirus at top of mind this summer, experts are concerned people may not take the right precautions for "Triple E."“You hear all about coronavirus, having to wear a mask,” said Dr. Brittany Campbell, an entomologist with the National Pest Management Association. “We've been doing social distancing for months now, with a little bit of movement. So, I can understand that everyone is a little bit exhausted from being concerned about their health all of the time. But at this time, I really encourage people to remain diligent.”This can be done by making a habit of dumping out any standing water in your yard and also protecting yourself by wearing repellent. And when it comes to how rampant "Triple E" will be this mosquito season, experts aren't exactly sure. It really depends on the temperature, climate and rain specific to each region.Massachusetts saw a large outbreak last year. The state is now looking at a bill that would have the public health department reduce the mosquito population, as a precaution. 1644

WHILE PUBLIC HEALTH EXPERTS ARE URGING AMERICANS TO GET VACCINATED, the process will require some patience as the supply will be limited initially. — The Federal Trade Commission’s website warned Americans on Tuesday that scammers could use coronavirus vaccines as a way to swindle the public. In the coming weeks, many high-risk Americans, mostly those who work in health care settings or those who live or work in assisted living facilities, will begin getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. The vaccines, however, likely won’t reach the broader American public for at least several months. While public health experts are urging Americans to get vaccinated, the process will require some patience as the supply will be limited initially. The Federal Trade Commission issued a series of recommendations to prevent getting conned. You likely will not need to pay anything out of pocket to get the vaccine during this public health emergency. You can’t pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. You can’t pay to get early access to the vaccine. No one from a vaccine distribution site or health care payer, like a private insurance company, will call you asking for your Social Security number or your credit card or bank account information to sign you up to get the vaccine.Beware of providers offering other products, treatments, or medicines to prevent the virus. Check with your health care provider before paying for or receiving any COVID-19-related treatment. The Federal Trade Commission is asking those who believe they are being the target of a scam to contact them at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. 1614
White House senior adviser Jared Kushner called for unity Monday at the opening of the United States' new embassy in Jerusalem, according to excerpts of his speech released by the White House."We believe, it is possible for both sides to gain more than they give -- so that all people can live in peace -- safe from danger, free from fear, and able to pursue their dreams."Jerusalem must remain a city that brings people of all faiths together," Kushner said. The senior adviser's speech comes after at least 41 people were killed during clashes earlier in the day along the border fence between Israel and Gaza, the most fatalities suffered in a single day since the latest round of demonstrations began more than six weeks ago.Kushner also praised to praise President Donald Trump's efforts to move the US embassy to Jerusalem."While presidents before him have backed down from their pledge to move the American Embassy once they were in office, this President delivered. Because when President Trump makes a promise, he keeps it," Kushner stated.Kushner, who is also the President's son-in-law, has been leading efforts to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace proposal, though any accord would be colored by the administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and decision to move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv.During his speech, Kushner is also expected to praise Israel as a country that "proves every day the boundless power of freedom.""This land is the only land in the Middle East in which Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and people of all faiths participate and worship freely according to their beliefs," Kushner said. "Israel protects women's rights, freedom of speech, and the right of every individual to reach their God-given potential."Kushner is also remarked on Iran, calling it "flawed" and "one-sided" less than a week after Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal."Iran's aggression threatens the many peace-loving citizens throughout the region and the world," Kushner said. "From Israel to Jordan to Egypt to Saudi Arabia and beyond, many leaders are fighting to modernize their countries and create better lives for their people. In confronting common threats, and in pursuit of common interests, previously unimaginable opportunities and alliances are starting to emerge."Kushner also criticized recent protests, saying that "those provoking violence are part of the problem and not part of the solution."US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, White House senior adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump, and special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt attended the ceremony as part of the US delegation. 2782
WISCONSIN — A 19-year-old man has been charged with two felonies after police say he gave a gun to Kyle Rittenhouse the night two protesters were killed in Kenosha.Prosecutors say Dominick Black purchased the weapon from the Ladysmith Ace Home Center using money he received from 17-year-old Rittenhouse. Police say Black bought the weapon for Rittenhouse because he wasn't 18-years-old yet and couldn't do it himself.Black and Rittenhouse agreed that the rifle would be stored at Black's stepdad's house since Rittenhouse did not have an Illinois Firearm Owner Identification card, according to the criminal complaint. Black's stepdad lives in Kenosha. On Aug. 23, Jacob Blake was shot in the back several times by Kenosha police. The following days were then full of protests and unrest in Kenosha.According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 25, Rittenhouse and Black volunteered to protect the Car Source located on Sheridan Road. The two met at Black's stepdad's house where Black gave Rittenhouse the gun he had purchased, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle.Around 11:49 p.m. that night, Rittenhouse used the gun to allegedly shoot and kill two individuals, Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. Both killings were captured on video by witnesses and the videos were widely shared on social media, police say. Now, Rittenhouse is facing trial in Wisconsin and Black has been charged with two counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a person under 18, causing death. This crime is punishable for up to six years in prison, per count. This story originally reported by Julia Marshall on TMJ4.com. 1618
