A Buckeye, Arizona man on active duty with the United States Air Force was booked into jail this week on second-degree murder charges after the death of his infant. On June 13, 2017, Phoenix Police responded to a report of a 3-month-old boy who was pronounced dead at Phoenix Children's Hospital. According to police paperwork, 25-year-old John Centano, the child's father, said he was home alone with the baby for about 20 minutes before he found him unresponsive on the master bed. He said it was about a minute or two after he left the child alone, face-down on the bed, to quickly grab shower items from the hallway bathroom. According to staff at the emergency room, Centano reportedly said he took a shower and returned to find the child unresponsive. An autopsy was performed on the child and his death was ruled a homicide due to complications with head trauma and other internal injuries. Investigators found evidence at the home suggesting that no shower items were retrieved from the hallway bathroom. Police say Centano made several inconsistent statements, including blaming their large dogs for the child's injuries. Centano was arrested on Tuesday and booked into jail on felony counts of second-degree murder and child abuse. Police documents show that Centano was employed with the United States Air Force on active duty.  1422

A Facebook selfie snapped Sunday featuring members of the Gainesville, Florida Police Department drew quite a response from admirers across the United States. The selfie, which has drawn nearly 170,000 comments and more than 100,000 shares, reportedly made the chief of the department "blush." Gainesville Police also requested people not call 911, requesting the trio to respond to their "incident."The three officers, who many consider "attractive" and "hot," were responding to Hurricane Irma incidents on Sunday. "Hello officer handsome! Sorry, i know you're out there helping but who doesn't like a cute first responder," Shari Dixon commented. Unfortunately for those interested, two of the three officers pictured are married. But the good news: Gainesville Police agreed to create a calendar featuring its officers. A Caroline County, Maryland man was arrested after an investigation led to criminal charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.The suspect, Jeffrey Litteral, 52, of Denton, Maryland, has been charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of obscene material and distribution of obscene material. Litteral was arrested near his home at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night and, from there, he was taken before a court commissioner for an initial appearance and was held without bond.This investigation began in 2017 when a Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigator received information about possible child pornography being uploaded to the internet. This led to Litteral and the development of evidence that enabled investigators to obtain an arrest warrant.During the investigation, detectives also learned that Litteral was employed by the United States Secret Service. Officials there assisted during his investigation and arrest.The investigation is continuing, so additional charges are possible. 1114

A Colorado family is reaching out to the public for help in treating their 15-year-old son’s rare and debilitating skin condition.For seven years, Jaiden Rogers has suffered from stiff skin syndrome, a disease that causes the skin to harden.“When they said it was stiff skin syndrome – I was like oh good it’s only that,” said Natalie, Jaiden’s mother. “But the doctor said, ‘oh no I don’t think you understand.’ They said his skin would turn to stone. Within a month, he was in a wheelchair. It spread so fast. Within just a few months, he was starting to get it everywhere.”The condition has caused his skin to gradually tighten and harden, spreading from his legs to his hips and then to his stomach and neck.It started as a growth behind his knee. Jaiden has since lost mobility. The syndrome is a painful one as the skin thickens, limiting joint mobility. The syndrome is sparked by a mutation change, and an exact treatment is unknown.With no cure for the disease, Rogers and his family are now banking on an experimental procedure to save his life.“Doctors in Ireland are working with doctors in London. This is very expensive,” Natalie said. “The whole treatment is .5 million, because they actually have to make something for him, because he is the only child. It’s our only hope, and we are running out of time.”Natalie says her son is “turning to stone,” leaving him unable to walk and sometimes giving him trouble breathing. He sees six doctors and takes chemotherapy drugs to slow the disease’s progression.Jaiden is being treated at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. He may be the only one in the world being treated for what has been tabbed stiff skin syndrome. Altogether, there have only been a few dozen documented cases of the disease.Today, Jaiden remains confined to a wheelchair and takes chemotherapy to slow the progression. However, the condition has since spread to his stomach, chest, and neck, making it difficult for him to breathe.The family has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the experimental treatment. The fund’s .5 million goal includes 5,000 for a medical flight to Europe. 2142
