BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- China will "vigorously" expand its imports of key products as the nation strives to cut its trade surplus amid growing protectionism against the world's largest exporter, a senior Chinese trade official said on Monday."We will especially encourage imports of products the nation is short of, especially advanced technology and key equipment," said Chong Quan, China's deputy international trade representative.Special attention will be paid to expanding imports from countries that China has a trade surplus with, he said at the China Import Forum organized by the Ministry of Commerce.Due to their domestic economic woes and political pressure, some developed countries, in particular the US, have accused China of piling up trade surpluses through policies such as an undervalued currency. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday vowed to continue its financial support to reconstruction projects in areas ravaged by the major Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, promising lower rates on loans and demanding an easier deposit reserve requirement ratio from banks in the regions.The new pledge came in a joint statement on the website of the People's Bank of China, or the central bank, which announced the continued financial support along with the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.Banks in the quake-hit areas should continue to provide financial support and services to reconstruction projects in the regions, as post-earthquake reconstruction is still in a critical period, the statement said.The magnitude-8.0 quake, with its epicenter in Wenchuan in southwest China's Sichuan Province, left more than 87,000 people dead or missing and more than 374,640 injured. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) - China's State Council, or the Cabinet, unveiled a set of guidelines Wednesday, aiming at helping reconstruction work in landslide-hit Zhouqu County in Gansu Province.The guidelines affect taxation, finance, education and employment policies in the region which was devastated by the massive mudslide on Aug. 8.The document clarified that funds for the reconstruction would come primarily from central government subsidies.It said that priority would be given to rebuild damaged residential houses, public services, infrastructure and prevent the spreading of diseases.It specified tax reduction measures for enterprises and individuals who had organized and collected donations, and encouraged banks and financial institutions to increase loans to the mudslide-hit areas.Land required for housing, infrastructure and reconstructing public facilities will be allocated by the local government, according to the document.Local governments or universities have also been directed to financially assist Zhouqu-born college students, while high-school students in the landslide-affected areas have been exempted from paying tuition fees, the document said.A massive mudslide triggered by rainstorms slammed Zhouqu county in northwest China's Gansu Province on Aug. 8, leaving 1,472 dead, 294 missing and more than 15,000 people homeless.
