BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao on Saturday visited an exhibition showcasing the achievements New China has made in the past six decades.     Former President Jiang Zemin, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, top political advisor Jia Qinglin, and other senior leaders including Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang also visited the show. LAS VEGAS, the United States, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A record number of Chinese businesses and manufacturers are participating in the annual exhibition of Chinese products in the United States, in a way to show their confidence in the U.S. market and American consumers, a senior Chinese official said here on Monday.     Inaugurating the "China Brand Show 2009" in the Las Vegas International Convention Center, Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan said the Chinese government pays much attention to the difficulties its economy is facing amid the global financial crisis.     "Ever since November last year, the Chinese foreign trade has been going down for a consecutive nine months, which complies with the world trade situation in general," said the official.     Stressing that both China and the United States are each other's essential trading partner, Zhong said that the two countries had committed to open more to trade and investment and fight protectionism at the recent China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue, held in Washington, D.C. in July.     On China's domestic efforts to tackle the global economic recession, Zhong said the government has rolled out a huge economic stimulus package, and China's stabilizing and promising economic trend has contributed to the global confidence in an early economic recovery.     "China's GDP enjoyed a 7.1-percent growth in the first half of 2009, bringing the economic slump starting from the fourth quarter last year to an end," said the vice minister.     According to organizers of the annual show, more than 200 enterprises from China are participating this year, to showcase their products during the three-day event that ends on Wednesday.     The show also serves as a promotion event for the 106th China Import and Exports Fair, to be held in Guangzhou from Oct. 12 to Nov. 4 this year, officials said.     The China Import and Export Fair, the country's number one trade fair, has become a platform for enterprises from different countries to do business and one of the key channels for foreign companies to enter the Chinese market.

BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- China Vanke, the country's largest property developer by market value, announced Monday evening that it had made a net profit of 2.52 billion yuan (368.9 million U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year, up 22.5 percent year on year.     Company revenue in the first half was 21.81 billion yuan, up 26.4 percent year on year, the developer said in its half-year report to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.     The company sold 3.488 million square meters of housing nationwide in the six months, up 31.2 percent over the same period last year in terms of total sales space.     The Shenzhen-based firm attributed the sales and profit rise to the upbeat Chinese property market performance in the first half, boosted by an array of government measures to bolster the economy and stimulate domestic consumption.     The Shenzhen-listed developer had edged down 0.9 percent to 13.24 yuan a share Monday before the release of the report.

ANCHORAGE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Saturday met with Alaska Governor Sean Parnell here before winding up his week-long official goodwill visit to the United States.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, said he was glad to have Alaska as the final stop in his visit to the United States.     Apart from meeting with U.S. government and parliament officials, Wu said he also conducted comprehensive contacts with people from all walks of life in the U.S. during his stay.     The major topics included how to strengthen the Sino-U.S. cooperation, how to join hands to face challenges and how to realize common development of the two countries, Wu said. He and Wu had a good conversation on topics ranging across renewable energy, environmental conservation, natural resources development, Alaska seafood and tourism opportunities, he added.     At the invitation of U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Wu started to visit the U.S. on Sept. 6. His trip to the United States was the first official visit to America by a top Chinese legislator in the past two decades.     Wu met with U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the stay.     Before visiting the Unites States, Wu has visited Cuba and the Bahamas.
