A New York man is in custody after having been arrested and charged with threatening to assault and murder Rep. Ilhan Omar, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.Patrick W. Carlineo, Jr., 55, of Addison, New York, threatened to kill Omar because of her Muslim faith, according to a criminal complaint and accompanying affidavit.Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, is one of the first two Muslim women serving in Congress after being elected in the 2018 midterms.A call was placed to Omar's Washington, DC, office on March 21, an FBI agent stated in the affidavit.During the call, an individual, who identified himself as Pat Carlineo, said to a staff member: "Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she's a (expletive) terrorist. I'll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull."Omar's office referred the threat to the US Capitol Police, which began an investigation with the FBI.Carlineo sounded angry during the call but provided the spelling of his name and contact information, the affidavit said.He was later interviewed by authorities where he stated that he was a patriot, that he loves President Donald Trump, and "that he hates radical Muslims in our government," the affidavit stated. He had initially claimed he had told Omar's office, "If our forefathers were still alive, they'd put a bullet in her head."When shown an email with the quote from the call regarding calling Omar a "terrorist" and threatening to kill her, Carlineo first replied that is not what he had said, according to the affidavit. He later admitted to authorities he may have said something like that but was unsure. Carlineo made an initial appearance Friday before a US magistrate judge and is being held pending a detention hearing next Wednesday, according to the 1847

A missing toddler who went missing in Kentucky was found unharmed and in good condition on Wednesday after being separated from his family for three days. Kenneth Howard, 22 months, was found alive in the area of a strip mine in Floyd County, the Magoffin County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The child was taken to a hospital for an examination. According to Prestonsburg Fire Department Chief Michael Brown, a firefighter heard cries from the child, which helped lead rescuers to Kenneth. "We all got quiet and started calling the child’s name, and at different times, sporadically, he would give us a cry and we had to try to pinpoint his location," Brown told ABC News on Thursday. "We got three or four cries from him, and two of the guys made their way back up the hill and he was sitting up at top of a little flat there."The child was reportedly playing with his father in their yard. The father reportedly turned his back to the child when Kenneth disappeared. Authorities said that they have no evidence of any criminal activity at this time. 1063

American Airlines plans to cancel flights well into April because of the Boeing 737 Max grounding.American, the world's largest airline, said Sunday it is canceling about 90 flights a day out through April 24. Before Sunday's announcement, American had only canceled flights through March 28.The airline is hopeful that that the 737 Max planes will be flying again soon, but said it is canceling flights about a month out as it waits for word from the Federal Aviation Administration."Canceling in advance provides additional availability and rebooking options for our customers," said the statement from American. The global fleet of 371 of the 737 Max jets was grounded indefinitely on March 13 after two of the planes had fatal crashes. A Lion Air flight crashed in October and an Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed on March 10.The causes of the crashes have yet to be determined but the focus has been on an automatic safety feature which may have forced the nose of each plane lower when it incorrectly believed the plane was in danger of going into a stall.Boeing and the FAA said they are working on an upgrade of its software to deal with that safety feature. Boeing said at the time of the grounding that it expected that update to be available "within weeks."American has 24 of the 737 Max 8 jets. But not every flight which had been scheduled to have a 737 Max has been canceled. American said it has rearranged its schedule to use other aircraft to complete some of those flights."We have balanced [cancellations] across our system," said the airline. It said both international and domestic flights are affected. "We will vary by day as we look to impact the fewest number of customers."American operates 3,300 flights its mainline system daily on average, and another 3,400 through regional carriers and partner airlines.Other carriers are not canceling nearly that far out.Southwest Airlines, which has 34 737 Max jets, said it is only canceling five days out at this point. It said it is also trying to rework the schedule to affect the fewest possible number of customers. 2099

After originally not having a briefing scheduled, the White House opted Tuesday afternoon to hold a briefing to deliver an update as cases of COVID-19 continue to increase nationwide. As of Tuesday afternoon, there are more than 51,000 coronavirus cases throughout the United States, according to John Hopkins University data. In the last two days, the tone coming from the White House has shifted from one of preparedness to one of trying to reopen segments of the economy. On Monday, President Donald Trump said that “we cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself," suggesting that the economic impact of the nation's coronavirus response could be worse than the spread of the virus. Trump said that he believes that the United States can “do both” protect lives and reopen the economy. On Tuesday, Trump said on Fox News that he has a goal to have the economy “opened up and just raring to go by Easter.”At the White House's briefing on Tuesday, Trump said that data would inform his decision. But when asked why he made Easter a target date, he said that it's a "special day."Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been advising the White House through this crisis, said that any goals should be flexible. But Trump’s approach is at odds of many state governors and health directors. In New York, which has seen nearly half the number of US cases of coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave a dire proclamation of what is to happen in the weeks to come. “FEMA says we're sending 400 ventilators. Really? What am I going to do 400 ventilators when I need 30,000?” Cuomo said. “You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die because you only sent 400 ventilators.”Meanwhile, the US Senate is nearing an agreement on a multi-trillion-dollar bill to offer assistance to companies and individuals affected by the economic impacts of the coronavirus. "I just finished a very productive meeting with secretary Mnuchin, the white house congressional liaison Eric Ueland and Mark Meadows, the president's acting chief of staff,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “Last night, I thought we were on the five yard line. Right now we're on the two.” 2150
