WENCHANG, Hainan, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- China is building a science theme park in the middle of its newest spaceport to promote space science among the country's younger generation.The theme park, covering an area of 1,800 mu (120 hectares) in Wenchang City, southern Hainan Province, is located at the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. The project is estimated to cost 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars) and is expected to be finished in 2013, the theme park's designers said.Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, whose construction began in 2007, is planned as the launch pad for China's lunar probe rocket in 2013.At the same time, the theme park will have four exhibition sections, featuring the earth, moon, Mars and the sun. Visitors can even enter parts of the launch station and watch the actual rocket launch, theme park construction officials said.The theme park is being built by China Aerospace International Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong listed arm of the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.There are currently three space launch sites in China, the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center and the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.

Local media cited doctors as saying Sean Lien's brain was not injured and his injury would not endanger his life.A spokeswoman of the hospital where Sean Lien was treated said he was sober-minded when he was sent to the hospital. BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Thursday said BRIC has accepted South Africa as a full member of the group, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India and China.Yang, during a phone conversation with his South African counterpart Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, said Chinese President Hu Jintao would issue an invitation letter to South African President Jacob Zuma, inviting him to attend the third BRIC leaders' meeting to be held in Beijing next year.Yang said that China, as the current rotating chair of BRIC, believes South Africa's accession will promote the development of BRIC and enhance the cooperation of emerging market economies.On behalf of the South African government and President Zuma, Nkoana-Mashabane said, "I would like to express our sincere appreciation towards President Hu's invitation."South Africa is ready to step up communication and coordination with China and other BRIC members for mutually-beneficial cooperation, the minister added.Later in the day, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong forwarded to Bheki Langa, South African Ambassador to China, the letter by President Hu.

VIENNA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China remained open to initiatives on the establishment of an international nuclear fuel bank , a senior Chinese diplomat said here Friday. "The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA should play an active role in establishing such mechanism, on the prerequisite of maintaining its independence, " said Hu Xiaodi, China's permanent representative and ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. "China is of the view that the establishment and operation of multilateral mechanism on assurance of nuclear fuel supply involves complex political, economic, technical and legal factors as well as practical interests of all Member States, " Hu told a board meeting of IAEA. Referring to an U.S. proposal on the establishment of an IAEA low-enrichment uranium bank, Hu noted that some IAEA Member States still had concerns on that proposal. "The concerns of relevant states should be taken into full consideration and resolved in order to seek the most extensive support," Hu said. He also said that while the objective of preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons should be promoted, Member States ' right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy should not be affected.There have been a number of initiatives to establish nuclear fuel reserve banks in recent years.The U.S. proposal envisions a nuclear fuel bank run by IAEA, to which countries could turn to if their regular supplies were cut.However, the plan has met opposition from some developing countries. They worry that a nuclear fuel bank could undermine their right to acquire their own nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Some countries are also concerned with the possibility of fuel supply being controlled by western powers and used for political purposes.
