Everything from crayons and markers, to binders and water bottles.The U.S. Public Interest Research (USPIRG) groups tested 27 school supplies and found that some of them contained toxic chemicals like asbestos, lead, benzine and phthalates, which have been linked to cancer and other health hazards.“You can't assume that things are automatically safe when they're on our store shelves,” says Danny Katz, with USPIRG.Katz's team found Playskool crayon from Dollar Tree had trace amounts of asbestos. But that wasn't it.A blue jot band binder from Dollar Tree tested positive for phthalates.  Additionally, dry erase markers from Amazon tested positive for benzine, even though the packaging says nontoxic.“Just because a product says nontoxic like that, doesn't mean it's been tested for all the different chemicals,” Katz explains.Katz says what you should look for is a symbol, which confirms the product has been tested and approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.His team has put together a list for parents and teachers of products that tested positive for toxic chemicals and those that didn't.“There's just no reason that these chemicals need to be in the school supplies,” Katz says. “There's plenty of school supplies that don't have them. So we're shining a spotlight on which ones have these toxic chemicals which ones we didn't find in helping teachers and parents to stay safe.”  1535

A man who held up a "Trump 2020" sign while riding Splash Mountain at Disney World says he has been banned from the park for life.Dion Cini of New York City donned a "Make America Great Again" visor and strategically held up a "Trump 2020" banner so it would show up in the on-ride photos that are available for purchase near the exit of Splash Mountain.NBC News reports that Cini was later told that he has been permanently prevented from visiting its parks.Disney told NBC that it wasn't the content of Cini's sign that resulted in the ban but the fact that he held up a sign "to incite a crowd."Disney World's park rules state that "unauthorized events, demonstrations or speeches, or the usage of any flag, banner or sign for commercial purposes, or to incite a crowd" as among its prohibited activities.Cini posted a picture of his ride photo, along with what appears to be a ticket documenting his ban from the parks on FacebookAlex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A passenger vehicle intentionally hit a security barrier near the White House on Friday, a law enforcement source told CNN, though the Secret Service said the car didn't breach the secure complex that surrounds the executive mansion.The incident prompted a lockdown at the White House, where President Donald Trump had recently completed talks and a news conference with his Australian counterpart.The Secret Service said the driver of the vehicle was female and was immediately apprehended by uniformed officers. No law enforcement personnel were injured, the agency said, though traffic was diverted from the area.  630

A Spirit Airlines employee has been charged with allegedly stabbing a co-worker during an argument at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, according to a police report.Around 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, police were called to the Spirit Airlines ticket counter for an altercation between two employees.When they arrived, authorities found a male employee who said he had just been stabbed in the stomach with a pair of scissors by another employee, the report said.  According to the report, the victim said around 6:30 p.m. he was sitting on the "belt" behind the counter when a third employee told him he wasn't allowed to sit down.  The employee also told the victim the suspect, 39-year-old Vonda Gardner, had taken photographs of him sitting down.The victim approached Gardner about the photograph and Gardner denied taking any pictures and swore at him, the report said.According to the report, the victim told Gardner he wanted to have a discussion with management to resolve the situation, to which she replied: "don't worry about it, I got it taken care if."During this time, Gardner was typing an email on her computer while the victim was standing behind reading over her shoulder. When Gardner realized this, she turned her computer monitor off.The victim reached over, turned the monitor back on and was then stabbed by Gardner with a pair of scissors she had been holding, the report said.The victim grabbed the scissors from Gardner and ran to security.Gardner was charged with felonious assault and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22. 1571
