SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Following hours of public comment and discussion, the Santee City Council approved a massive housing development that has been in the works for decades.Late Wednesday evening, the council voted 4-1 in favor of the Fanita Ranch project. The development was first proposed in 1999 and has gone through several revisions.The project includes nearly 3,000 new homes, as well as plans for a school, parks, and open space. Changes to state Route 52 are also a part of the plan.The development will be located north of SR-52, west of Eucalyptus Hills, off Magnolia Avenue and Cuyamaca Street.Fanita Ranch supporters have argued that more homes are needed in the area, but opponents believe the project would create a traffic problem, especially during an emergency situation like a wildfire. Noise and environment-related concerns have also been raised.The developers, HomeFed Corporation, said they have solutions for many of the issues brought up by project opponents, including evacuation routes in the event of an emergency.HomeFed also said the project would bring more jobs and revenue to the city of Santee.The project would be completed in four phases and would be finished in 10-15 years.Prior to the vote, some Santee residents asked the council to table the issue and allow them to have a vote on the land use with Measure N on the November ballot. 1385
SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cell phone video reportedly taken Wednesday morning shows San Diego County Sheriff's deputies at a San Marcos home that's been at the center of an ongoing battle. When Team10 arrived, there was an eviction resolution notice taped to a window on the property. Neighbors tell us that they're thrilled the eviction process is finally underway. This is a story that Team10 has been following since May - when we spoke with a local hopeful home buyer, John Masnica. He says Julie Frisino and her family unlawfully moved into the house while Masnica was in the process of closing escrow on the bank-owned foreclosure. Wednesday, he told us, "She's just a deadbeat from a family of deadbeats that take advantage of the system." He went on to say, "I hope that now that they're out of this house that there aren't any other available houses for them to try to break into."Frisino took the situation to court, claiming she had rights to be there. This summer, a judge said the bank trustee, not Frisino, had rights to the home.Masnica and his wife are due with their fourth child. (KGTV) - Surveillance pictures released Monday show two of the four people suspected of identity theft in East County.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said a woman either lost her wallet or had it stolen at the Vons grocery store at 9643 Mission Gorge Road in Santee on January 20.The victim’s credit cards were used immediately by four suspects at several nearby stores including Buffalo Wild Wings, Home Depot, Walmart, Skechers, and Ross.Two of the suspects were identified and arrested but the other two are still wanted.One suspect is a white man in his 40’s, 6-feet tall with gray hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow and black plaid jacket and jeans.The other suspect is a white woman, about 40 years old, 5’6” and 230 pounds. She has burgundy or purple hair and wears glasses. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The robotic car company created by Google is poised to attempt a major technological leap in California, where its vehicles will hit the roads without a human on hand to take control in emergencies.The regulatory approval announced Tuesday allows Waymo's driverless cars to cruise through California at speeds up to 65 miles per hour.The self-driving cars have traveled millions of miles on the state's roads since Waymo began as a secretive project within Google nearly a decade ago.
