Thousands of youth sporting events were canceled this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.It's tough enough that kids are missing a whole season of baseball or soccer. But now, soccer moms and dads everywhere are growing frustrated.Many paid hundreds of dollars for their kids to participate in spring soccer leagues that ended up canceled, and refunds are turning out to be elusive. Some families paid over ,000 for two children to join private clubs.One weekend of play, 0 goneJulie Hooper is the mother of a third-grader who only got to play one weekend before the season was shut down."For the spring soccer league, we paid 5," she said.When parents called the head coaches after the cancellation, they did not get what they had hoped."We asked where our money is, and they are keeping all of it and told us we get a 10% discount if we sign up for next season," she said.Hooper said she would understand had they at least continued training, but there have been no tournaments, games or practices, and the club still has the parents' money."I've heard from other teams, other clubs, that they would get money back from tournaments not played," she said.Where is the money?But many clubs are not giving refunds. News reports and Facebook complaints show soccer parents nationwide are asking where the money has gone.Some teams say they prepaid for tournaments and are having problems getting those deposits back from larger sporting organizations. Others say much of the money went to field maintenance and insurance, and those funds are gone for good.Hooper said she doesn't expect a full refund, but "to pay 5 and get so little, it just seems like we should get something back. Three Denver police officers have been suspended after three separate incidents this year of arrestees being forgotten in temporary holding cells overnight. Policy requires desk officers to check on people detained in holding cells every 30 minutes and to notify a supervisor if someone has been held there for more than an hour. The holding cells are supposed to be temporary stops for arrestees before they can be transported to the city jail. Yet one woman, in custody for an unpaid traffic ticket, sat in a sparse police department holding cell for nearly 13 hours. Handcuffed to a bench, Victoria Ugalde could not reach the toilet for much of the time and had no option but to urinate on the floor.  "They forgot about me," Ugalde said. "I was looking in the camera, I was [saying] 'Can anybody help me?' And then, nobody."The desk officer who was supposed to check on Ugalde admitted he failed to notice she was there because he was wrapped up in reading a book, titled "Emotional Intelligence 2.0."He served a three-day suspension and is back on the job.The seemingly strange scenario played out twice more this year, and the police department is weighing policy changes to prevent it from happening again. "It should not have occurred," said Jess Vigil, deputy director of the Denver Department of Safety. "It doesn’t sit well with me and it doesn’t sit well with the department.”"I cried a lot"Victoria Ugalde had her driver's license revoked after a DUI arrest in 2003. She said she quit drinking after that arrest. In 2013, a police officer caught her driving with her license still revoked and cited her. Thomas Magnum has lost his sidekick. John Hillerman, the actor who played Magnum P.I. sidekick Jonathan Higgins, died on Thursday at the age of 84. According to TMZ, he died at his home in Houston. The cause of his death is unknown. Hillerman's portrayal of Higgins was plotted as a foil for the title character in Magnum P.I., which ran for eight seasons on CBS. Hillerman won an Emmy Award in 1987 for his performance. Besides his role on Magnum P.I., Hillerman appeared in nearly two dozen feature films, and even more television shows. Hillerman retired from show business in the late 90s.  637

There will be two new headquarters for Amazon, with 25,000 people in each location.Amazon has not announced which two cities the headquarters will be in, but that information is expected later this week, according to?the Wall Street Journal.The HQ2 split will happen because of a lack of technology talent.It has been more than a year since the company sought proposals from cities desiring to be home to the headquarters. Amazon's current headquarters is in Seattle and has led to problematic traffic and increased housing costs.
