SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's housing crunch could soon offer a very small but mighty option for renters.They would come in the form of what are called tiny homes — which can be up to 400 square feet.The homes are easier to manufacture and transport than so-called granny flats because they are built in a factory, as opposed to on-site. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some long-time roller derby kids are upset after Skateworld management announced their Youth Roller Derby program was cut. Many of these kids were instrumental in the "Save Skateworld" campaign in April. When Skateworld was on the verge of being turned into a big box store, they were there. "We got out of school the day of the City Council meeting," mother, Meadow Beidler said. Armed with their skates and signs, dozens of roller derby kids convinced San Diego City Council to vote to save Skateworld on April 8, 2019. "We really thank the kids for coming out and making their signs," Skateworld general manager, Brett Stang said. His father Gary Stang started the rink in 1975. It has been a Linda Vista institution ever since. Earlier this year, when a developer shared plans to turn Skateworld into a big box store, the derby kids rallied and protested for days.Little did the kids know, that the home they just helped save, would essentially kick them out. Beidler is a proud "Derby Mom" of three fierce girls: "Cheshire Splat," "Hot Sauce," and "Zoom Zoom Kaboom." But now, she doesn't know if she will keep that title. "We don't know if we are going to be able to continue with derby," Beidler said. Days after the city council vote to save their rink, Beidler says her girls were suddenly told that their Youth Derby program would be cut. Management explained it was due to administrative reasons. "The way it went down it was just heartbreaking," Beidler said. The kids were told to join another club instead."We haven't been able to give that derby team the attention it kind of deserves," Brett Stang said. "They've been bumped for private events and other slots, so there is another team out there, 'Derby United,' who offered to take our program under their wing."But Beidler says the problem is that Derby United's new facility in La Mesa has not started construction. She also says Skateworld's prices cannot be beaten. "If we were to continue that and do derby at this new location that hasn't been built yet, then it would cost my family an additional 0 a month," Beidler said. Her girls are now so distraught, they cannot even speak. After all they did for Skateworld, they feel unappreciated. "Having our kids getting excited and politically motivated and going on camera and speaking from the heart how it is family," Beidler said. "They feel very betrayed."Skateworld's management told 10News, although they are closed on Mondays, the kids could have Monday practices if parents and coaches work on an agreement. But hosting home games on the weekends would be tough, considering their free skate schedule. 2663

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Richard Fischer was re-assigned to administrative duties after a woman's allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced this week.Now, a San Marcos woman is alleging Fischer did the same thing to her last year.    The woman is accusing Fischer of inappropriate conduct and touching in August of 2016, according to her attorney, Dan Gilleon.RELATED: Woman claims she was groped by San Diego deputy, files claim against department"Her house was burglarized during in the day and Fischer was one of the deputies that arrived to investigate the burglaries. They all leave," Gilleon said of his client's claims.Later, Gilleon said she heard a knock at her door."It's Deputy Fischer again. She opens the door and he looks at her and says, 'It looks like you could use a hug,' and without her consent reaches in and hugs her," Gilleon said.Gilleon added Fischer knew no one else was home."It shocks her, she's startled. The hairs going up on the back of the next," Gilleon said, alleging Fischer then uses the same ruse as another woman claims - asking to use the bathroom."Now he's deeper into the house and hugs her again. Now she's resisting and walks him to the door and he says - don't worry. I'll be in the community and I'll be keeping an eye out for you," Gilleon said.The second woman saw a news story about the other woman's similar allegations and recognized Fischer, according to her attorney."When she saw the story she knew word needed to get out. She wanted the other woman to know the same thing happened to her and she wanted the community to know this is what he is out there doing," Gilleon said.   Gilleon is filing the second claim next week.An SDSO spokesman told 10News  he will look into this second allegation and issue a statement. 1894

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seaport Village is seeing a bounce back in foot traffic now that the most stringent of coronavirus-related restrictions have eased.Port of San Diego officials say in the last month, 39,661 people came to the coastal shopping mall. That's more than double the 16,606 people that came through the center in the month after the shutdown order took effect March 13. The port took over management of Seaport Village about two years ago and invested more than million to spruce it up, create more in-person events, and add new tenants. The idea was to reverse the decline in the village, which had seen numerous closures. Ultimately, the port plans to redevelop the property with a hotel, office space, an aquarium, and a spire. "We're really just doing our best to set it up for the future, for us this is the perfect opportunity with all of the interest that we've gotten," said Lucy Contreras, a program manager in the Port's real estate division.In the last year, the Port has signed leases with Geppetto's, Spill the Beans Coffee, Mr. Moto Pizza House, Sam the Cooking Guy for a restaurant, and a Mike Hess Brewing tasting room combined with City Tacos. The duo already has a location in Imperial Beach and will take over a former restaurant spot on the center's western edge overlooking the bay. "Ever since then, and that's been like three and a half years, you tell people we're doing beer and tacos on the beach, beer and tacos on the water, nobody thinks that's a bad idea," Hess said. On Friday, the port signed a lease with the Malibu Farm restaurant for a Seaport Village location.The mall, which canceled many in-person events during the shutdown, started once again offering live music two weeks ago. It also has balcony concerts every Thursday and Saturday. While the foot traffic has increased, it is still down from pre-COVID-19 levels. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego winemakers say business is picking up, and there's a new way to for locals to get their foot in the door. A new report by the San Diego County Vintners Association says there are now 116 wineries in the region, with sales nearly doubling in the last year. The industry now has about 700 workers in the county. Now, the association has teamed up with Cuyamaca College for a Viticulture Technician Apprenticeship program. Participants work 1,500 hours a year, learning the ins and outs of winemaking. They earn an hour the first year and the second, with opportunities to make more doing side jobs once they get enough experience. "You can't really sell wine unless you know where it's coming from and what goes into it, creating the story behind the wine itself," said Kaylan Wedemeyer, who is an apprentice for La Mesa's San Pasqual Winery.Linda McWilliams, who owns San Pasqual, said many local wineries are mom and pops, but that apprentices can also grow with them."I think we'll find places for the people who graduate, and then we'll build together," she said. The program is accepting applications ahead of interviews in December, and January starts.  1227
