SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Huey Lewis and The News fans disappointed by the band’s canceled concerts have a chance to enjoy its hit songs at a musical, Heart of Rock and Roll, set to debut at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in September.Lewis, the band’s lead singer and namesake, announced Friday he was dealing with the sudden loss of his hearing."Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most my hearing," Lewis said in a message to his fans Friday. "Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can't hear music enough to sing."Lewis went on to explain that doctors believe he has the inner ear disorder Meniere's disease and said he should not perform until he improves."Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who've already bought tickets and were planning to come see us," Lewis added. "[I] hope that one day soon I'll be able to perform again."Fans will be able to hear the 80s rocker’s hits in Heart of Rock and Roll, which runs September 6 through October 21. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A new technology just reached San Diego and Border Patrol agents say it’s going to help them do their jobs faster, easier and more efficiently. They’re called Mobile Video Surveillance Systems. Each unit is grounded to a Ford F150, the controls to operate the cameras mounted on a mast in the bed of the truck are inside. San Diego is the second place in the nation to have truck like these. Border Patrol says they’ll be rolling out in just a couple days. The first place to have Mobile Video Surveillance System trucks is Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Michael Scappechio is a supervisory with Border Patrol and he tells 10 News, “the looming threat of the migrant caravan in Tijuana and more people potentially on the way we need to make sure we’re prepared for that”. The two cameras allow the agents to see two pictures at all times, a daytime camera and an infrared camera. While Scappechio says the need for this kind of technology is needed in San Diego, it’s their increased rate of arrests that landed the trucks here, “nearly a 90 percent increase is significant, that’s going to get attention, that’s going to get resources, that’s going to get man power, infrastructure and technology”.Border Patrol tells 10 News these trucks won’t replace the border wall but instead, will go hand in hand with it. 1334

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two men convicted of leading a home-invasion robbery spree with five other people were sentenced to prison terms Friday.A judge sentenced 26-year-old Thomas James Smith to 85 years plus 50 years to life in prison and 22-year-old Aaron Rico III to 35 years plus 25 years to life in prison for their roles the series of violent break-ins.Smith and Rico were convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary, robbery, burglary and sexual assault in June. The violent crime spree began on January 23. The series of crimes included breaking into homes, tying up and assaulting homeowners, and in one case, sexually assaulting a woman. RELATED: 680

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For the second time this week, Rancho Bernardo High School Principal Dave LeMaster met with concerned parents Thursday regarding Monday's school threat.Students arrived for class Monday morning to find violent threats spray-painted onto around 20 locations on campus. They all indicated a school shooting would happen that day at noon, with messages including "murder, blood, chaos" and "Florida was nothing".LeMaster told 10News police arrived quickly and within minutes determined there was no credible threat.An email notification went out to parents around 8:30am, after class had started, although LeMaster said if there was a danger, notification would have been sent out much sooner."We work with law enforcement to make sure the situation is secure and everyone is safe, and oftentimes, communication comes after that,” said Poway Unified School District spokesperson Christine Paik.Word of the incident quickly spread among students and their family members, which provides a challenge for administrators to inform parents."In the age of social media and texting, sometimes those unofficial communications will beat us to it ," Paik said. "But we have a responsibility to be accurate before we are able to put out those messages.”One parent told 10News she thinks the school should immediately notify parents of any threat to the school to give them the option of keeping their kids away from campus, but other parents worry that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and disruption.PUSD said it will work on improving the time it takes to send notifications to parents.
