SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University set a new record for its Aztec Rock Hunger annual food drive, collecting 590,503 pounds of food from Sept. 28 through Oct. 21, which the school will now donate to the Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank. The amount exceeds last years total of 588,915 pounds, and includes both non-perishable foods and  donations, which the school collected at the SDSU bookstore, athletic events, SDSU Dining locations and Aztec Proud events. Jim Flores, CEO of the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank, said the partnership with the school, which has raised more than two million pounds of food since its inception in 2008, has been beneficial."We are very grateful to the students, faculty and administration at San Diego State University for supporting the food bank," Flores said. "We are currently feeding more than 37,000 people every month in communities throughout the county, including thousands of students through our College Hunger-relief Program." Aztecs Rock Hunger was started by Associated Students (A.S.) which works alongside multiple campus groups, including SDSU Athletics and the College Area Business District. Christian Onwuka, A.S. vice president of financial affairs, said the partnership is a source of pride. "It has been amazing to see so many different divisions and facets of campus come together and give their all toward this campaign fighting food insecurity," he said. Not all of the donations will go to the food bank, however. 20 percent of the food remaining on campus will go towards helping SDSU's Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT). The ECRT works to prevent food insecurity for students on campus, as well as provide emergency support for those in a sudden economic crisis.  1894

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several business owners on University Avenue in Hillcrest say they were vandalized sometime late Tuesday night. The owners think the suspects shot at their windows with a type of pellet gun. At least three businesses had windows either shattered or broken. Benjamin Nicholls, with the Hillcrest Business Association says he feels these businesses were targeted because of the time of year. San Diego Pride is 9 days away. Samir Hannosh owns The Glass Door Cafe, which just opened a week ago. His window replacement could cost him anywhere from ,000-,000. He says he hopes the businesses weren't targeted for being in the LGBTQ neighborhood, adding that all business will be ready and proud for the upcoming Pride celebration.The San Diego Police Department says they are investigating and working to find the person or persons responsible. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's museums received a glimmer of hope following the reveal of California's new guidance.That's because San Diego County was placed in the second tier, "substantial." Now, several businesses will have to opportunity to reopen, as they did in June, with modifications indoors.The San Diego Air and Space Museum announced it plans to reopen on Monday. When the museum reopened in June, staff implemented safety policies including capacity limits, social distancing, facemasks for guests and employees, hand sanitizer stations, and continuous cleaning. Museum staff also were required to have their temperatures screened daily before entering.RELATED: Several San Diego County businesses to reopen indoors with limits under new guidanceThis time around, museums will have to limit indoor activities to 25% capacity in addition to modifications, according to the state's guidance for tier two.The museum is one of a handful of Balboa Park attractions that have been able to welcome guests back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. It reads "students and recognized student organizations with more than 25 people in attendance are required to register for tailgating.""People are bummed but I haven’t heard that many people upset about it," SDSU Freshman Caitlin said.The new form requires organizations to acknowledge kegs, glassware, and underage drinking is prohibited.
