BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore Police are investigating the shooting of a 5-year-old girl on the 1000 block of McKean Street in West Baltimore on Monday evening.According to an official with the mayor's office, the 5-year-old girl is the younger sister of 7-year-old Taylor Hayes who was shot in the backseat of a car in July and was pronounced dead two weeks later.Officers were called to an area hospital for a report of the 5-year-old walk-in shooting victim who was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her groin.Investigators say that residents in the area of the 1000 block of McKean Street heard several gunshots when someone looked outside and saw the girl laying on the sidewalk suffering from her gunshot wound.A person then picked up the girl from the sidewalk and drove her to an area hospital.The young girl was immediately rushed into surgery and is expected to survive.Officials believe that the girl was caught in the middle of a shootout involving suspects in an unknown car and suspects on foot. 1077

Barbie dolls have long inspired young girls with their beauty and fashion sense. Now they're inspiring them with their brains and bravado, too.On Tuesday, just ahead of International Women's Day, Barbie introduced a batch of new dolls based on real-life figures.The new dolls came after Mattel, maker of Barbie, conducted a survey of 8,000 mothers around the globe and found that 86% are worried about the kind of role models their daughters are exposed to."Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything," wrote Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager of Barbie, in a news release.This week Mattel introduced dolls in two separate series of Barbies: "Inspiring Women," based on historical figures, and new additions to its "Shero" line of dolls named for inspirational contemporary women.Both lines reflect the Barbie brand's highest honor: a one-of-a-kind doll made in a real woman's likeness.Inspiring WomenThe "Inspiring Women" dolls come with educational information about the contributions each woman made to society.One is Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The FBI is investigating after a piece of rope resembling a noose was found in a Black firefighter's locker in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. An FBI spokesman confirmed Saturday the bureau is investigating and said that the case is in its initial stages. Bloomington officials had asked the FBI to investigate. Officials say that the rope was tied into what appears to be a crude noose and was discovered at a Bloomington fire station on June 15. The discovery was reported to Fire Department leaders eight days later, on Tuesday. The fire chief says such acts that “embody hate, intimidation, and aggression will not be tolerated.” Mayor Tim Busse says he's “disgusted, angry, and embarrassed by this cowardly act.” 758

Bayer announced on Thursday a voluntary recall of Alka-Seltzer Plus products sold after February 9, 2018 at retailers nationwide.The affected products can be identified by checking the Bayer logo located on the lower left corner of the front of the carton.
