(AP) — Mexican authorities have closed a border entry point in southern Mexico after thousands of Central American migrants tried to push their way across a bridge spanning the Suchiate River between Mexico and Guatemala. Normally migrants who want to request asylum in Mexico are allowed to cross the bridge. But many of migrants prefer to pass through Mexico en route to the U.S., which has repeatedly asked Mexico to impede their arrival. As the crowd swelled on the bridge, amid shoves, Mexican officials allowed several dozen migrants to enter the country in groups of 20. Mexico's government has said that migrants entering the country without registering will not be allowed to pass from the border area. But those seeking asylum or other protections will be allowed to apply and legalize their status.Guatemala tells the Associated Press they've counted more than 3,000 migrants who have registered at border crossings recently, but there were more migrants who haven't registered.Francisco Gardu?o, commissioner of Mexico’s National Immigration Institute, told the AP the migrants would not cross any farther.“They cannot enter because it would be in violation of the law,” he told the AP, adding there are “sufficient” troops to hold order in the area. 1270

With just five Democratic Party hopefuls for president left, two candidates emerged as clear frontrunners on a crucial night dubbed as “Super Tuesday.” Joe Biden, ex-President Barack Obama’s two-term vice president, asserted himself as a real contender to take the Democratic nomination. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who attained frontrunner status after winning races in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, is now locked into a battle with Biden. Meanwhile, the campaigns of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg are in question. While Warren’s campaign presses on by adding several campaign events later in the week, Warren did not finish in the Top 2 in any of the 14 states up for grabs on Tuesday, including her home state of Massachusetts. Meanwhile, representatives for Bloomberg said that the candidate is returning to NYC to reassess his campaign. Bloomberg’s only victory on Tuesday came from the tiny US territory of American Samoa, which only had six delegates up for grabs. Also grabbing a delegate from the Pacific island was Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who was born on the island. The delegate was her first of the campaign. Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey said that in the campaign's opinion, there is still time for Bloomberg to make up ground. This comes after Bloomberg sat out the first four nominating races. "Tonight, only one-third of delegates will be allotted," Sheekey said. "As Mike said tonight, 'No matter how many delegates we win tonight, we have done something no one else thought was possible.’ In just three months, we've gone from just 1% in the polls to being a contender for the Democratic nomination."The night started out great for Biden, as races in North Carolina, Virginia and Alabama were called early in the evening. He then went on to win in Tennessee, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Massachusetts. While Biden won at least eight of 14 states on Tuesday, Sanders won the largest delegate prize of the night California. As of 2:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, only the race in Maine remains uncalled.Even before the polls closed in California, Sanders used his rally on Tuesday to contrast his record with Biden. “We're going to beat Trump because this will become a contrast in ideas,” he said. “One of us in this race led the opposition to the war in Iraq. You are looking at him."Meanwhile, a spirited Biden took a victory lap before his supporters in Los Angeles. "We're literally in a battle for the soul of America. Winning means uniting America, not sowing seeds of division and anger and hate,” Biden said. “We gotta beat Donald Trump and we will, but we can't become like him. We cannot have a never-ending war between the parties. We need a person who can fight, but make no mistake about it I can fight. But we need as badly someone who can heal."States called: Biden:AlabamaArkansasMassachusettsMinnesotaNorth CarolinaOklahomaTennesseeTexasVirginiaSanders: CaliforniaColoradoUtahVermontBloomberg:American SamoaToo Close to Call: Maine 3005

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New video reveals clues into a shootout that shook up a neighborhood in Clairemont Friday morning. At Broadlawn Street and Batista Street, the quiet was shattered just past 10 a.m., leaving neighbors like Julia Mauriello dumbfounded. "I heard a loud series of sounds I was not familiar with. I came out to find there was a gun battle on my street," said Mauriello. That morning, San Diego Police evidence markers revealed the location of the spent rounds. There were few clues about what happened, until now. A neighbor's Ring video obtained by 10News shows that in the 50 seconds before the shooting, a speeding black truck turns onto the street past a dark green sedan, which then begins to move.In the next video, the truck is stopped on the street. Not far away, someone emerges from the passenger side of the car and starts firing. After about six shots exchanged, the person gets back in the car. The car backs up and peels out.Another surveillance camera shows the truck racing out of the area, before returning, possibly to survey the damage. "So scary. This happened in front of my home. All of my children were on my lawn just an hour before the shots. This street is full of families," said Mauriello. If you have any information on either vehicle, call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000. 1326

San Diego (KGTV) There’s a battle over prime real estate in Hillcrest. There were plans to use the Third Avenue location for luxury housing, but some county leaders are hoping to use the space as a way to serve the homeless dealing with mental health challenges. Over a decade ago, the location once served as a center for adolescents. The county had plans to use the 7-acre lot for luxury condos. “I don’t believe that the public policy changes we face as a region is a shortage of luxury condos,” says County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “I believe the public policy challenge we face as a region is an investment in behavioral health services.”The vacant space on Third Avenue sits less than a mile from Scripps Mercy Hospital and UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest. “We have 50 to 100 patients in our emergency rooms every day that need some form of mental health services,” says Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health. The facility would offer services like psychiatric care and substance abuse. “A lot of folks go to the emergency room, get the most expensive care, get stabilized, and they have nowhere to go,” said Fletcher. The County Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposed site on Wednesday. 1217

Conservative rhetoric about migrants -- like the group making their way through Mexico, the one President Donald Trump called an "invasion" -- might lead some to believe that migrants are a threat to American health, a strain on the health care system and damaging to the economy. But a new series of papers presented at a UN Intergovernmental Conference this week and published Wednesday in the journal Lancet says that, based on evidence, that's not true. Most migrants have a mortality advantage, or greater life expectancy, than people in their host countries, according to the new research. This was true for the majority of diseases. However, separating migrants from their families can be bad for children's health, as can keeping them in detention or continuously threatening them with deportation, the research showed.More than 1 billion people were "on the move" around the world this year, and a quarter of them were crossing international borders, according to researchers who worked on the report. With so many people on the move or having moved in 2018, the authors argue that "migration is the defining issue of our time," particularly as nationalist and anti-immigrant sentiment grows. 1267
