It may take until September to contain the largest fire in California history, which is now nearly the size of Los Angeles.So far, two firefighters have been injured while fighting the Mendocino Complex Fire, which consists of two fires -- the Ranch Fire and the River Fire -- in Northern California. The pair have burned 292,692 acres and was 34 percent contained as of Tuesday evening.The colossal fire altogether has destroyed 75 residences, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire.Cal Fire estimated that full containment could take until September 1. The Mendocino Complex Fire ignited on July 27.Last year's Thomas Fire, which is the second-largest fire in California history, took more than six months to extinguish after burning 281,893 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. 852

In the wake of recent fatal pedestrian crashes, a law firm commissioned a study that reveals the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians in San Diego.In 2016, there were 103 pedestrian fatalities in San Diego County. Between 2010 and 2016, a total of 430 people were killed and nearly 8,000 injured in pedestrian crashes.According to the law firm Estey and Bomberger, the most dangerous intersection in San Diego lies in Hillcrest at the intersection of First Avenue and University Avenue.The below map shows the cities with the highest numbers of dangerous intersections in California. INDIANAPOLIS — Veteran's Affairs in Indianapolis says multiple graves at a Confederate burial site were smeared with tar and feathers earlier this month.The VA is seeking information that could lead to the identification of those responsible for smearing tar and feathers on graves in the "Confederate Mound" section of Crown Hill Cemetery."Vandalism and defacement of federal property is a serious crime, and VA is working with law enforcement officials to identify those responsible," the department said in a statement. "VA is committed to maintaining our cemeteries as national shrines, and that includes cleaning these gravesites, which memorialize those interred at the cemetery."The vandalism was discovered on June 6. Crown Hill Cemetery groundskeeper David Deems said he believes the graves were defaced that morning because the tar was still soft when he found it.Deems said he was able to clean most of the substance off the graves, but some remnants remain.The Confederate Mound is a federally-owned national cemetery that does not belong to Crown Hill Cemetery, though it is on its property.
