Parking lots are next on the list to reopen.Starting Monday, June 8, park and water use are open at East and West Mission Bay Parks with no restrictions. Mission Bay parking lots are open. Fiesta Island is open to pedestrians, dogs and cyclists as of June 8 but will not open for cars until July 6.Starting Tuesday, June 9, all San Diego piers and boardwalks are open. (KGTV) - A couple in San Diego are spending the holiday telling everyone they know to register as an organ donor."People don't like to talk about their death, but rather than bury these organs or burn them up, you can save lives," says Nancy Marlin, who is recovering from a kidney transplant.Marlin had a genetic kidney disease and would have needed dialysis if not for the donation. Her new kidney came from a co-worker."I was so fortunate," says says. "Someone gave me the most amazing gift."It's a gift her family knows well. Marlin's husband, Fred Kolkhorst, had a heart transplant just 18 months ago after being diagnoses with heart failure."It changes you immensely in ways that are difficult to describe," he says.Kolkhorst and Marlin are rare in that they're a married couple who have both received donated organs. Sharp Memorial Hospital Transplant Coordinator Tammy Wright says she can't think of any couples in her 25 years in the field.Wright says the holidays are the perfect time for families to talk about their wishes in regards to organ donations."It's a time of giving," she says. "The simple thing is to tell your family what your wishes are. SAN DIEGO,Calif. (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County mother died early Sunday morning and the father of her children has been arrested, authorities said.San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to calls of a possible shooting just after midnight at a home on 25969 Duro Rd. in Valley Center, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.When deputies arrived, they found an adult female suffering from a traumatic injury. The victim was rushed to Palomar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, said Boudreau.The victim was identified as Mayra Meraz, 31. Her injuries were not made available at this time.The suspect, Anthony Daniel Chaloux, 42, was arrested and booked into jail for murder.According to Boudreau, the suspect and the victim were in a domestic relationship and have two children together.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330/after hours at (858) 565-5200. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Chesa Boudin, the son of anti-war radicals sent to prison for murder when he was a baby, has won San Francisco's tightly contested race for district attorney after campaigning to reform the criminal justice system.The former deputy public defender declared victory Saturday night after four days of ballot counting determined he was ahead of interim District Attorney Suzy Loftus. The latest results from the San Francisco Department of Elections gave Boudin a lead of 8,465 votes.Loftus conceded and said she will work to ensure a smooth and immediate transition.Boudin, 39, became the latest candidate across the nation to win district attorney elections by pushing for sweeping reform over incarceration. He said he wants to tackle racial bias in the criminal justice system, overhaul the bail system, protect immigrants from deportation and pursue accountability in police misconduct cases."The people of San Francisco have sent a powerful and clear message: It's time for radical change to how we envision justice," Boudin said in a statement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Poway gun store is set to sell 1 million rounds of ammunition by the end of the year.It’s called the “1 million round month.” Managers at Poway Weapons and Gear Range are stocking up for the sale that begins on Black Friday. Customers can get their hands on all the ammunition they need before changes come to gun stores next year. The law, which kicks off in July 2019 says, in addition to a gun permit, gun owners will have to pass a background check to buy ammo.RELATED: March poll shows how San Diegans?feel about gun control“Then when they buy ammo we have to log into a database and report how much ammo they buy,” says Danielle Rudolph, Director of Sales Operations at the store.The data logged will then be sent to the Department of Justice. “We need to remain vigilant that guns and ammunition don’t get in the hands of people that shouldn’t have them,” says Ron Marcus with San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention.
