Miami-Dade County, Florida, will close all of its beaches from July 3 through July 7 amid an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Sunshine State, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced on Friday.The closures are for beaches in all cities and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade. MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Hurricane Eta is quickly gaining force as it heads for Central America, threatening massive flooding and landslides across a vulnerable region. The National Hurricane Center says the storm has 150 mph sustained winds, as of Monday evening, and is gaining speed as it approaches land. The hurricane was just 6 mph shy of category 5 strength. Eta is expected to hit along the Nicaragua-Honduras border, with landfall coming sometime on Tuesday. The rainfall is expected to be heavy, it could be three feet in some places. The storm surge is predicted to get as high as 12-18 feet above normal tide. "Through Friday evening, heavy rainfall from Eta will likely lead to catastrophic, life-threatening flash flooding and river flooding across portions of Central America, along with landslides in areas of higher terrain. Flash and river flooding is also possible across Jamaica, southeast Mexico, El Salvador, southern Haiti and the Cayman Islands," according to the advisory from the NHC. 1021

Maryland-based vaccine developer, Novavax, has received .6 billion from the federal government to complete late-stage clinical development; set up large-scale manufacturing; and deliver 100 million doses of NVX?CoV2373, its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, as early as late 2020.This is the largest vaccine deal to date with the Trump administration as part of their Operation Warp Speed, which is focused on making a COVID-19 vaccine and treatments available as quickly as possible.Novavax has not brought any of their developed vaccines to market. According to information on their website, they have developed several vaccines for infectious diseases, however they are all in various stages of development or clinical trials. These include vaccines for the seasonal flu and RSV. Other vaccines created by Novavax are not actively being developed or studied at this time, including ones for Ebola, MERS, and SARS.According to a statement from Novavax, the agreement with the federal government includes the company demonstrating being able to rapidly get manufacturing and large-scale production of the vaccine going once approved. MIAMI, Fla. – Norwegian Cruise Line announced Tuesday that it would be keeping its ships docked even longer amid ongoing COVID-19 concerns.The cruise line said it’s extending the suspension of its 2020 cruises to include all sailing through August 31, all sailing in September except Seattle-based Alaska Cruises, and select October sailing.The select October cruises include two trips to Alaska, as well as two trips to Canada and New England.The company is offering guests who had an active reservation on a suspended cruise a refund of their cruise fare in the form of a future cruise credit (FCC) for 125% of the amount paid to date on June 25.The FCC must be used one year from the date issued for any Norwegian Cruise Line voyage embarking through 2022, according to the company.Norwegian says guests who prefer to not take advantage of an FCC can elect to receive a lesser refund equal to the amount paid to date to the original form of payment 90 days after form submission for sailings originally scheduled to embark anytime from July 1 onward.For suspended cruises that were set to embark between July 1 and July 31, this form must be submitted not later than 11:59 p.m. ET on June 19, 2020.
