TOKYO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda met on Thursday with 10 representatives of Chinese students studying in Japan, delivering friendly messages before the upcoming visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Japan.     "We warmly welcome President Hu to Japan," said Fukuda in the talks with the Chinese students at his residence.     He said that despite some problems in bilateral ties, he hoped that the Chinese students will, under whatever circumstances, recognize the importance of Japan-China relations and strive for their development.     China is a major power in the world, and the performance of a major power has direct bearing on world stability, said the Japanese prime minister, adding that Japan hopes to foster a relationship with China that helps make joint efforts for world stability. NANNING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Sunday that China's financial institutions have generally increased their strength, profitability and risk-resisting ability, and the financial system as a whole is sound and safe in face of the international financial crisis.     Wen made the remarks during an inspection tour to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China. BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank on Friday said it will continue international cooperation to tackle the global financial crisis and maintain market stability.     The pledge came two days after the People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced an interest rate cut in a co-ordinated global move to revive solvency in the international financial system.     The PBOC on Wednesday cut the benchmark lending and deposit rates by 0.27 percentage points and the reserve requirement ratio by 0.5 percentage points amid growing fears of a slowing economy and falling equities market.     "The PBOC will continue close contacts and cooperation with counterparts and international financial organizations to jointly maintain stability of global financial market," PBOC spokesman Li Chao told Xinhua.     The PBOC would closely watch the developments and effects of the crisis and take timely and flexibly measures according to changes in the domestic and international situations to guard against financial risks, Li said.     The global economic slowdown reduced demand for Chinese exports and inevitably affected China's economy, he said.     The central bank was fully confident and capable of dealing with the crisis and maintaining stable and relatively fast economic growth.     "China has a huge domestic market and the liquidity is abundant," he said. "As long as we take strong measures to boost domestic demand, the economy has big potential for sustainable growth."     A PBOC statement on the third-quarter meeting of its monetary policy committee said it would take flexible and prudent macro-economic control measures to boost economic growth.     The PBOC was not optimistic in its global economic outlook as intensifying fluctuations in the financial markets had affected the real economy.     It said it would boost coordination between monetary policies and fiscal, industry, export and financial regulation policies to help transform economic growth mode and boost domestic demand to balance international payments.

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of China's top political advisory body met on Tuesday to call for ideas on rural development and reform.     The Standing Committee of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee will hold its third meeting in mid October. Its major topic is rural development and reform, according to a statement issued after a meeting of CPPCC National Committee chairman and vice chairpersons presided over by Chairman Jia Qinglin.     Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) members will meet from Oct. 9 to 12 in Beijing to discuss major issues about promoting reform and development in the rural areas at the third Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.     Political advisors are expected to discuss the guidelines reached at the Party session, the statement said. "We shall present research findings our political advisors made about rural development and try our best to put forward as many good proposals as possible to the Party."     At Tuesday's meeting, Jia called on political advisors to take an active part in a nationwide campaign to learn and implement the Scientific Outlook on Development.     The campaign aims to push Party members, especially leading Party members and government officials, to learn how to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development and carry it out effectively.     Political advisors should think about how to implement it in the CPPCC's work to improve its supervision on the ruling Party and participation in state affairs, Jia said.
