SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Valley Fire has forced many East County residents to evacuate, but one homeowner said he and his family have decided to stay in their home and ride the situation out.Leo Prado told ABC 10News, “Where are we going to go? It’s not like we just have luggage and we can go into a hotel. We have animals here.”Prado said picking up and leaving his home in the Deerhorn Valley area, near Jamul, isn’t an easy task, especially with horses and dogs on his property.Prado and his family are staying put, as their area is only under a voluntary evacuation as of Tuesday afternoon.According to Prado, his property has not had power since the Valley Fire started on Saturday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The USS Midway Museum is celebrating 15 years in San Diego with a ticket discount offer for area residents. The deal announced Tuesday is rolling back admission to 2004 prices during the month of September. Tickets are for adults and seniors, and for youth and students. “Midway would not be the 5th most-popular American museum of any type (35,000 museums) if it were not for the nearly 800 San Diegans who donate more than 275,000 hours annually,” said founding president and CEO Mac McLaughlin. “They are the rock stars of Midway and the foundation of its success.” September marks the 74th anniversary of the USS Midway’s commissioning. The retired aircraft carrier opened as a museum in June 2004 after a 12-year campaign. The ship has been host to special events including an SDSU basketball game, an NFL pregame show, and episodes of The Bachelor and American Idol. The Midway is the most-visited ship museum in the world and the top-rated San Diego activity according to TripAdvisor, the museum reports. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Trump administration’s latest effort to keep asylum seekers out of America is being met with opposition. Attorney General William Bar directed immigration judges to deny bond hearings for asylum seekers arriving at the border. The ruling does not go into effect for another 3 months and Barr himself noted it will have a "significant impact" on the already overcrowded detention centers. “A person can be detained indefinitely," said immigration attorney Edward Orendain. "This is just another attempt by this administration to make things more difficult for those seeking asylum.” The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged overcrowding many of their detention centers along the border earlier this month and requested the 90-day delay after Barr’s ruling on Tuesday. “It’s only a call to build more detention centers,” said Benjamin Prado with American Friends Service Committee. “Those contracts go to a private prison corporations that make huge amount of profits on the detention of people, off the ‘warehousing’ of individuals.”Barr’s ruling is expected to be challenged in court. 10News has reached to Immigration and Customs Enforcement on how this would affect their centers in San Diego. 1234
