An Air Force veteran racked up millions more dollars on his fundraising page for President Donald Trump's U.S.-Mexico border wall, but it remained unclear Friday how the U.S. government would get the money.Brian Kolfage's GoFundMe page has raised more than million as of Friday afternoon to build the wall, whose funding was threatening a partial government shutdown. The crowdfunding page, which was launched less than a week ago, has a goal of billion. In a statement on the page, Kolfage assured contributors that the fundraiser was not a scam and that he had contacted the Trump administration about how to deliver the money.White House officials did not immediately return an email seeking comment Friday.RELATED: Counter GoFundMe wants to buy 'ladders to get over Trump's wall,' but it's not actually for laddersCitizens can mail money as "gifts to the United States," according to the U.S. Treasury Department. But it's not clear whether the Department of Homeland Security can accept gifts.Kolfage of Miramar Beach, Florida, wrote that donors would get a refund if the fundraising goal isn't met. The page has brought attention to Kolfage, a triple amputee who was wounded in the Iraq War in 2004, and his social media history. NBC News reported that Kolfage operated a Facebook page called "Right Wing News" and sites that promoted conspiracy theories. He told the news outlet that he didn't mention the page because he "didn't want it to be a distraction." "That shouldn't be the focus. My personal issues have nothing to do with building the wall," Kolfage said.He told The Associated Press in an email Thursday that he worked on "Right Wing News" but the rest of NBC's story "is not true." Kolfage did not respond Friday to multiple requests for comment from the AP. 1793

A longtime program focused on feeding the homeless at Mary Star of the Sea Church in La Jolla has been cancelled because of concerns about Hepatitis A. The founder of "So Others May Eat", Tresha Souza, tells 10 News the pastor of the church informed her at the end of October that she would no longer be able to serve people at their facility, citing concerns about the recent Hep A outbreak. The Catholic Diocese issued the following statement: “We’re sorry for any misunderstandings that have arisen regarding the ‘So Others May Eat’ dinners that used to take place at Mary Star of the Sea.  A major renovation forced us to close our parish hall for the past several months and we have had to redirect where and how we do our part to serve the less fortunate in our parish.   We have not and will never turn our backs on the poor.  As a parish, we will respond to the needs of our community; we will overcome the challenges posed by the Hepatitis outbreak and we will continue to provide assistance to the homeless people and families who need our help and our prayers.”  1122

"Despite mounting pressure to back off or stand down, I have maintained that an independent, external investigation into PBSO's handling of serial sex predator Jeffrey Epstein is both necessary and proper. I thank Governor DeSantis for directing such an investigation through FDLE. Epstein enjoyed an unprecedented and deeply troubling level of leniency and luxury while incarcerated by PBSO. I am disgusted by the flagrant corruption documented within the logs of deputies assigned to supervise Epstein while on work release and deeply disturbed by allegations of sexual abuse perpetrated under PBSO watch. FDLE's investigation is the first step toward a clear understanding of what happened and who is responsible. We need answers if we want accountability. I now stand available to assist Governor DeSantis and FDLE as they move through what I, the people of Florida, and this country know will be a true independent investigation of what happened here." 965

Grammy nominated Swedish DJ Avicii died Friday, his publicist confirmed to CNN.He was 28."It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii," a statement to CNN read. "He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."Avicii was one of the most successful touring DJs in the industry, working with artists including Madonna. He had a crossover pop hit in 2013 with "Wake Me Up."But he also saw the downside of fame in the electronic dance music genre known as EDM."It's very easy to become too attached to partying," he told Rolling Stone last year. "You become lonely and get anxieties. It becomes toxic."He retired from performing in 2016 after a string of health issues, including acute pancreatitis.Avicii told Time in 2013 that the illness was caused by excessive drinking."Yeah I was drinking way too much, partying in general way too much," he said. "Then I got a pancreatitis attack [at 21], which is very rare. So that forced me to do a 180 and stop drinking."The DJ explained in a 2017 posting on his site that he had no intention of giving up music completely, writing "We all reach a point in our lives and careers where we understand what matters the most to us.""For me it's creating music," he wrote. "That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do."Avicii also wrote that he was heading back into the studio to make more art."The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new," his posting said. "Hope you′ll enjoy it as much as I do."Fellow musicians took to social media on Friday to mourn his death."Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do," fellow superstar DJ Calvin Harris tweeted. "My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim." 2045
